Gotta Watch: Hunt for Osama bin Laden

Nearly a decade after the September 11 terrorist attacks, in a mansion in Abbottabad, Pakistan, Osama bin Laden was killed. In today's Gotta Watch, we track the hunt for bin Laden.

Terrorist beginnings – Osama bin Laden was on America's radar prior to the September 11 attacks. The terrorist leader made no secret of his displeasure with the U.S. and its foreign policy. In a 1997 interview with CNN, bin Laden said the country's arrogance is the reason he was seeking a jihad against the nation.

'Wanted dead or alive' – After the attacks, President Bush was frank about his wishes. He wanted bin Laden "dead or alive." But as months turned into years, some questioned whether bin Laden would ever be killed or captured. President Bush never doubted it and, years later, in a 2009 interview, reiterated that capturing the terrorist was just a matter of time.

Reaction to bin Laden's death – As news of bin Laden's death spread, Americans took to the streets to celebrate. Many gathered at Ground Zero in New York and chanted, "USA! USA!"

Considering how little he applied his resources to help his own people makes, it sad to see such a wasted life. Considering how many innocent people died because of him, it is logical and necessary that he should be killed. But the emotional response I'm seeing to his death and the feelings of satisfaction and blood-lust that I'm feeling alarm me.

It happens everytime the US is attacked or when we take heavy causualties on the battlefield. It breaks other people while it gives Americans a stronger will to survive by any means.

Congrats to the President and the Millitary for completing the mission !! – NOW lets change the mind of the people influenced by his message of hate and destruction. Lets reinforce the mission of peace and democracy and place power in the hands of the people not the extremist – Get a Pakistani pen pal – sponsor a kid, donate to there women causes- let us as a people and establish an image of America as a proponet of peace and equality and a great global neighbor.

First off, the message of hate and destruction comes from their religion. We are so weak and passive aggressive that we are scared of conflict and telling the truth, and that is the truth. Secondly, trying to force western culture down the throats of people that don't want it only adds to their hatred. If they wanted change they would change. They don't want us to do it for them. Have you ever had someone try to change you when you didn't want to change? Our vision of equality is not theirs. I agree with your sentiments, but it is not as simple as what you are saying. I wish it were.

We got him!!!! Or did we, I just heard that he was burried at sea??? Why? Because of Islamic tradition? We have better taken some DNA off the body not just pictures. Why did we not bring his body back to the USA to show everybody, there are many questions of why they did this. I only hope this is true.

He was buried at sea to avoid any grave site that would give other nut-cases a place to worship. Good riddins to bad garbage. I feel sorry for the fish that are feeding on his rotting corpse.

Nice job Obama and U.S. Navy Seals!

And congratulations of course to the conspiracy theorists who have already moved on from Obama's birth certificate to whether we really killed Osama bin Laden. You all are nothing if not persistently delusional.

I believe the only Islamic tradition they are announcing that was followed was that of disposing of the remains within 24 hrs. I can understand the sea burial. You can't really bury him on land. The last thing you want is to have a fixed land location that would become a focus and shrine to his followers.
