[Updated at 10:02 a.m. ET] Read the full statement.

[Updated at 8:51 a.m. ET ] The statement, translated by SITE, lauded the late militant, threatened to take action against the United States, and urged Pakistanis to "rise up and revolt."

Bin Laden's death will serve as a "curse that chases the Americans and their agents, and goes after them inside and outside their countries," the message said.

"Soon - with help from Allah - their happiness will turn into sorrow, and their blood will be mixed with their tears," it said.

The statement said al Qaeda will "continue on the path of jihad, the path walked upon by our leaders, and on top of them" bin Laden "without hesitation or reluctance.

Bin Laden and other militants used the internet to post messages to their followers before and after al Qaeda's September, 11, 2001 attack on the United States.

[Updated at 8:40 a.m. ET] CNN has seen the statement posted on the jihadist forum regarding Osama bin Laden's death and is working to translate it. We'll bring you any information from it as soon as we get it.

[Posted at 8:28 a.m. ET] Al Qaeda released a statement on jihadist forums confirming the death of its leader, Osama bin Laden, according to SITE Intelligence Group, which monitors militant messages.

CNN could not immediately confirm the statement.

Bin Laden was killed early Monday in a raid conducted by the U.S. at a compound in Abbottabad, Pakistan.

If you can't confirm it, why are you reporting it???? Just so you can put up a big enticing headline on your home page, with NO facts to back it up? And what's with "Group Says"? Hey, here's a real news flash for you – chat forums are not sources. Shame on you CNN

Breaking news: So you're saying that an internet forum/chat where anyone can make an account and say whatever they want is not a reliable source? shame on you Kate!

The very nature of your post makes you a cog in this machinery of unreliability knows as a blog. It's a laugh out loud moment for you to blather your personal truth in the comments section of something you are accusing of being an unreliable source. What does that say about your reliability? Doesn't anyone else see the irony here?

i am so glad this man is dead – and i am a non believer in the death penalty – there is no penalty in death – however , placing this man on display would only further his cause as a religious zealot – we all must pay the price for freedom

Do we really want to believe the enemy I'm pretty sure they know they are being monitored by us so they are say what we want to here this guys are not stupid. If he is alive you think they are gonna be broadcasting it when they know they are being monitored. I know they know because we broadcast almost everthing we do. I know people want to know whats going on and what steps our military is taking by the media but it can be our down fall because they watch cnn or media networks just like we do and we tell almost everything we are doing by the media. So they know what we are doing. Stop telling everything to the media and to the media stop being so nosey or if you get info stop broadcasting what the military is doing. Your giving the terrorist a advantage. You want to be a good reporter start broadcasting the terrorist info and I mean the important stuff not the terrorist have moved from this area to that area. stuff the people want to know important about them.

I hope there is life after death. Osama will then realize how wrong he was about everything he and his fellow jihadists believed in. Right now, he is probably demanding his 72 virgins and a hookah without realizing he is in the hottest part of hell.

I just read a post calling Americans "gutless cowboys" for killing OBL in front of his kids. How about the thousands of people that got killed on 911 when planes crashed into them? How about you terrorists uncover your faces and meet us man to man or are you to afraid?

This confirms what our government has been saying since it happened. The forum that it was posted on is very reputable in that they post most of their anti-American things on there....they're not going to WILLINGLY confirm something pertaining to us unless its fact. Glad they got him!

  12. Really?

U guys are all so naive. U want to know whether OBL is really dead and if the photos are real. Ha ha OBL is a fictional character. He never existed."He" was a decoy used by the terrorist to distract us while they did their dirty deads. Trust me I know,in my previous life I was a psychic for Joseph Smith.

What is wrong wit u people. We didn't want to capture Bin Laden. We wnted him dead. One life for over 5000. Seems fair to me. Get over ur selves. The world needs to understand the pain he caused. I will never condone the things goverments do to their people. The slaughter, the bullying, and the deceit but for once the US got'er done.
