Gotta Watch: Dogs of war

The recent mission to capture and kill Osama bin Laden has only underscored the need for military canine units. It was recently revealed that part of the SEAL team included a dog , who was choppered in to help identify possible threats to his team. These videos highlight stories of heroic military dogs during times of peace and war.

Deployed canines honored – A dog who survives six IED explosions surely deserves a war monument. Jacko is just one of many dogs to be honored at the F. Walton working dog memorial.

I'm so glad they gave them a memorial they should get one in D.C.These animals belong to the Government. It's not all rainbows and butterflies people. You pay for this so you have a right to know.

Also if you want to rag on PETA they are a part of the CFC the charities that federal employees give to. They also played a big part in taking down Michael Vick!!!!! Something to think about! Since you are all such big animal lovers!!!!

Last year PETA in SC took in over 2k animals. 7 were placed with new owners. The rest were killed. Most the same day as received. Screw PETA.

Funny, I see hundreds of dogs weekly aiding and assisting Border Patrol and Customs, from anything to sniffing out cars, to chasing people who illegally sneak into this country with drugs, to yes, search and rescue missions to save lives. In all my years working with these agencies, I have NEVER heard of a working dog killing anyone, nor have I ever heard of any working dog killing anyone intentionally. Almost all the work these dogs do is to aid us and save lives. And all of these dogs are loved, cared for and "spoiled" by their owners/handlers. "Working Dog" breeds need something to do. Whats a shame is when people get these kinds of dogs as "pets" and do no training or obedience with them and let them sit on their couch and get fat, lazy and bored!! Dogs love mind stimulation!Almost all dogs want to please their owners. Why not use them for something useful!! My "pet" dog is in the process of becoming a Search and Rescue dog, why, because he is a working breed, he is intelligent, he loves to "search" and he may just be wonderful at it! Wouldn't it be great if one day his volunteer service was used to help save a life?? Yes i would be!!

I love dogs. I hate war, but realize it is an inevitable part of being part of the human race. The retired dogs in the video and the handlers/owners all look like they are happy and happy to be together. These dogs have served their country and their handlers well. They deserve to retire with someone who understands how special they are who will continue to foster the need to work and to please that is deeply built into the psyche of all working breeds. I found this a very uplifting story.

Thanks Dave from LA, you understand whats going on here, I for one would die in the line of duty with the dog, I just didn't let it wonder off the leash, I was right there with the K-9; the important rule here is no mistakes!!. We all were right there on the front line with the dogs, they had their gear on and so did we. When you spend that much time with the dog, there will always be an unbreakable bond. When one of my service dogs passed away a few years ago, a part of me died with him. He saved my life 3 times; when a service dog does that then he gets treated like gold where ever we go.

What's wrong with the people who blog in here to condone the use of dogs for killing people overseas? With all the godless weapons at their disposal, why do these bozoes in the military need to use dogs to do the killing? The whole thing is disgusting to say the least!!!

The short answer to your question Frank is that most of these people who advcate using dogs as murder weapons here are a bunch of lame brained, ignorant right-wing fools who can't think their way out of a wet paper bag! In fact,I wouldn't be at all surprised if some of these nitwits belonged to the Tea Party Movement.
