Pakistan arrests dozens in connection with bin Laden compound

Dozens of people in the Pakistani city of Abbottabad have been arrested because of their suspected connections to the compound where Osama bin Laden was shot and killed, a Pakistani intelligence official said Friday.

Some of the individuals were arrested around the compound and investigators still need to determine if any of the people arrested have any connection with al Qaeda.

This story is developing. We'll bring you the latest information as soon as we get it.

Pakistan's leaders are saying "I"m shocked, just shocked that there were Pakistani's helping bin Laden". Captain Renault would be proud.

all of u out dere .... if this was Pakistan's intelligence failure ...wasn't 9/11 the USA's intelligence failure ....double standards eh ? don't u see the sacrifices made by Pakistan... 34,000 civilians + armed forces personnel killed ....$ 70 billion loss to our economy ! =|

You can call 9/11 our intelligence failure but, at that time, it is more properly a reflection of our naivete that it could ever happen here. Anything that goes on now could properly be called an intelligence failure, especially with the stellar forces we have commanding our airports these days. After 9/11, ten years have gone by without another incident.

Sameed... No double standards here... The US admits intelligence failures in the 911 attacks... Will Pak do the same?
      We shall see.

Agreed the civilians are suffering...but because of the incompetence , double standards and non-cooperation among you govt, intelligence, army. Perhaps you people should organize a civilian uprising against them for screwing you all!

Sameed..........you are about 50% correct and I have to agree somewhat with your thinking......it was certainly a failure on the part of America but it also was subterfuge by Pakistan.............it was a two way street..........is cost both countries money........it has cost both countries lives.......keep in mind also that Pakistan is VERY nuclear capable.....it would not be wise to get them too edgy..........we could retaliate but by that time...massive damage would have been done to us also................

Stop whining like moe. "70 billions lost in the economy" don't you guys get more than that in aid from us? And they still don't help the world to be a safer world by capturing a mass murderer that is living freely in their territory for years.

Sameed, Sacrifice and that to Pakistan ? No way.
You are talking about economy ? What economy Pakistan has and had ? Your business model since 1948 is create a terrorism , terrorize all the nations and then take money to eliminate them .. Wow !
You create a mess ( terrorism), kill your people, and innocent other people (outside pakistan), take money to create terrorism, shelter terrorists, in the process your people got killed along with much more of other innocents. Did your country man go out of pakistan and fought any terrorists ? No. They are your people and your creation and you call that a sacrifice ? You can not people for ever. World has more intelligent people than that of Pakistani's.

we (india) may wash our clothes on rocks and drink and cook using that water, but i believe that as long as we are not unnecessarily invading other countries (USA) or are hiding terrorists (Pakistan) we are fine.

    @Arsalan
Moon landing was real. Wire was put on the top of the flag to make it stand up straight since the moon has no atmosphere. while they were swiveling the flagpole left and right to get it to go in the ground, it caused the flag to sway. That's why it appeared as if there was wind. Think about this: The astronauts brought back rock samples from the moon that were independently verified by labs across the globe (even soviets). How do you 'fake' moon rock samples and have them verified by independent labs across the globe?? Moon landing was real.
NOw if u r muslim i think u believe that muhammed rode a flying pony to the moon as it says in the koran. U consider that real without any reasoning or logic behind how someone can ride a magic pony to the moon, and easily dismiss the moon landing backed by science? That shows how u think, or don't think, which is more appropriate.

All these – Mellisa, Amana, Afzal, Abdurrahman belong to Pakistan. Looking at their postings you can see why their country is in this state. That's how Pakistan is. Only US can fix it. Hopefully one day in future this will happen.

  12. The Oracle

The U.S. C.I.A. had bin Laden's hideout under surveillance for months from a nearby location. No doubt they recorded comings and goings, which they probably have on videotape. Even though there was concern about compromising the mission to get bin Lsden by informing the Pakistani government beforehand, I'd think that this surveillance material would help the Pakistanis determine who helped bin Laden..if they're interested. And there's bound to be information in all the material seized during the raid that would also help find al Qaeda/Taliban sympathizers, too, both in Abbottabad and elsewhere in Pakistan. From this report, maybe the Pakistani authorities are taking advantage of this intelligence coup, rooting out some of the rot.

@nur amabo nur. I once heard a man say (maybe 10 years or so) that he believes terriost will come in thru Mexican border and, they will be into OK (I think that was the state) be fore we realize they are here because our military will be so scattered, we will be defenseless. it is interesting because now it seems possible.

Also regarding a previous post @ 1:47pm mentioning what would Jesus do; in the Bible GOD says (paraphrase) My ways are not like yours, My thoughts are not like yours. So I would not presume to know what HE would do. I`ve always cringed at that saying.

CIA was watching that compound since last 6 months, they had video cameras and all the spy equipments in neighborhood , still they were only 60% sure that Osama was present inside compound, So people who were watching them since past 6 months were not sure than how you Nazi thugs could accuse Pakistan and ISI ?

Could Pakistan had captured Bin Laden years ago and had been keeping him prisioner in order to serve there on goals and intiatives. Maybe we should not be so quick to call them incompetant....
