Man dies in jump from world's tallest building

A man committed suicide Tuesday by jumping off the 147th floor of the world's tallest building, the Burj Khalifa in Dubai.

The man landed on a deck on the 108th floor of the 160-story structure, according to news reports from Dubai.

Dubai police confirmed the suicide, according to a report posted by The Gulf Today.

The man was described as an Asian in his mid-30s.

"The deceased works at one of the companies located at Burj Khalifa itself. We also came to know that the man decided to commit suicide as his company refused to grant  leave," a police official told The Gulf Today.

The Burj Khalifa is 2,716.5 feet tall and is the tallest free-standing structure in the world. It officially opened in 2010.

To Mr. Mackey, please why don't you show us how to clear that 108th floor? I would love to see the mess YOU make. So disgusting how people do not value the human life.

He jumped off 160 story building from the 147th to the 108th floors. So really he could have just jumped off a 39 story building and hit the sidewalk. Same thing. This is known as the "Asian fail".

Had he just "pushed off" a little better, he might have achieved some Bounce, such that he would've continued on to the next terrace, and then the next, and so on. Now THAT would've been EXCELLENT.

Sticking your head out of a car window at 100mph won’t do a thing. I routinely ride my motorcycle at 150mph plus on the back roads. I have a windshield smaller than my helmet to say nothing of my body. And I don’t have to tuck until 160+

Well that is stupid to go 150 on the backroads.

Sean's routine 150mph drives will sure make his life end faster.

      @Brian
Whether it is stupid or not is a matter of opinion. You haven’t the faintest idea where I live and what is considered a back road here. So you’re pretty much talking out of your back side. Considering I’ve been doing it for 12 years now… can’t be THAT stupid.

Persian Gulf states are developing fast. Although as one mentioned here, there are many labor and cultural issues unsolved.

People sky dive from air planes and they don't have the 'air sucked out of them'. You could hold your breath in the time it takes to fall from one of these buildings, it's not that far.

At the speed of a free-fall for 39 floors (about 400 feet) it would take about 1 second to hit the deck. Hold your breath.

What a loser. He couldn't even make it all the way to the ground.

What is wrong with people??. such pathetic comments and absolutely no compassion for another human being. Seriously!!! this is so indicative of what is wrong in this world. IF everyone showed a little more compassion towards others the world would be a much better place. And the person extending the compassion might just find themselves to be a little happier individual and therefore they would not have to make such distasteful and disrespectable comments.

Well Gavin, that is what we've been trying to says here – had the man been more considerate of others, he might have made it all the way to the ground, thereby saving electricity wasted when the clean-up crew had to travel all the way up to 108 to clean up the mess. DUH!!!

Doesn't strike me as the most painless way to commit suicide.

I think it would rank right up there on that scale. It may hurt really, really bad, but only for a split-split second. Much shorter suffering time than hanging, shooting (potentially), self-asphyxiation, and even overdose.

What's painful about self-asphyxiation? Just ask David Carradine.

Lots of talk about Chinese human rights violations but I invite you to look in to what passes for normal labor laws (or lack thereof) in countries like the UAE.
