Elderly Nazi guard sentenced to prison

John Demjanjuk was found guilty Thursday of involvement in tens of thousands of murders by a court in Germany, capping a 25-year international legal saga over whether he was a Nazi camp guard during World War II. He was sentenced to five years in prison.

German prosecutors accused the 91-year-old former Ohio auto worker of being a guard at the notorious Nazi death camp of Sobibor in Poland. His defense team argued that he was a prisoner of war who was forced to do what the Nazis wanted. FULL STORY

    Five years in prison?
    Tens of thousands of murders?
How unimportant was his "involvement in" the murders?

I am not white and hate Hitler but I don't understand how you can try to convict someone like that for war crimes? He was a prison guard and the country was under Nazi rule. So, is everyone supposed to run away and hide somewhere else? He was probably an average citizen who had no choice but to take part in that regime.

Unless of course it's proven that he is a racist and did enjoy watching so many innocent people die, then he does deserve what he got.

Not all prison guards were just innocent bystanders caught between a rock and hard place. Some were kind, some were not, and some were power crazy viscous killers. I bet if you were a prisoner, you would remember who was which of the above for the rest of your life.

      Are you f'ing insane?

The attempted extermination of an entire group of people and the succesful murder of 6 million people is trivial and the prosecution of ANYONE involved in that act is a waste of time??????

What the hell is wrong with you?

What?! How rediculous. He's gotta be like 90! 5yrs is like a life sentence. It seems like too little too late to be punished for his involvement in WW2. He should have been punished after it happened not 50 yrs later. I wonder what he said in his defense.

It's time we quit having so much sympathy for Jews. What about all the military tortured and killed by our enemies during WW II? Where is all the outrage for their murders?

Following the trial for years, it's a circus. For a group of people who died by the millions in the name of peace, they sure are a vengeful lot now that they have their own country.

These comments make me sick. Would we be saying these things if it took 50 years to hunt & prosecute bin Laden? It doesn't matter who the terrorist is, or who they terrorize, they need to know they will be hunted down no matter how long it takes.

So why are the international community searching out all the of the jewish terrorists who bombed the King David hotel, all those who slaughtered Palestinians and successfully ethnically cleansed them through torture, poisoning drinking water and livestock, bombing, and all other crimes against humanity. The cowardly "international" community (i.e. white Europe) isn't search for even one of them. Quite the contrary, the western world rewards them. Rahm Emmanuels father was as cold-blooded a terrorist as any terrorist in the world today. Do not forget the jewish kapos under Hitler. Survivors of the internment camps say that they'd rather be subjected to any other kapo than the jewish ones who were the meanest and the ones who gloated most in torture. Voila! They are not hunting down a single jewish kapo. These jewish kapos killed other jewish inmates with joy and torturous creativity. So let's put this verdict in perspective. Should people of color ever take over the world, all those soldiers who carried out torture under orders, who bombed entire cities under orders, who are guards at Guantanamo shall be tried for crimes against humanity. They are all one and the same as John Demjanjuk. Frankly, I think it is a black mark on Euro/US "justice" that ONLY non-jewish 95-year-old criminals are hunted down. The jewish ones live out their golden years in peace.

Israel tried him and let him go. I think Germany is making an example of him to be honest. There was a discrepancy with ID's they weren't allowed to show at trail.

Bitter truth. Hard to swallow by some but still the truth.
" International community"' keeps its eyes averted from many a crimes against humanity.
Be careful though all you folks, you can be hauled away fro speaking out on subjects which are considered taboo & out of bounds in this 'free' country of ours.
