Obama to announce steps to speed oil drilling

With gas topping $4 a gallon, President Barack Obama on Saturday will announce new plans to speed up domestic drilling for oil.

In his weekly address to the nation, the president will outline his plans for what he calls "safe and responsible" oil production.

The Obama administration will speed up the leasing process for the Alaska National Petroleum Reserve, give oil companies better financial incentives to use their leases and extend all drilling leases in the Gulf of Mexico so oil companies have more time to implement safety measures after the devastating BP oil spill.

He will also fast-forward the testing of areas off the east coast of the United States to see what oil resources are there and if it would be safe and commercially viable to drill.

if you want real information that lame stream media will not report about the future of oil I recommend..
the oil drum . c om . and the association for the study of peak oil... cnn is lying about oil reservoirs and due to there corporate ownership will not speak the truth about the oil situation.

Y'all want to look at why we aren't already running an alcohol fuel economy. I suspect most of the reasons given, the inefficiency of alcohol, availability of fuel, damage to engines, cost, wouldn't stand up to a rigorous analysis or the light of day. I was perusing my Android phone the other day and found a lovely description of how to make E85 as efficient as gasoline to drive (in terms of miles per gallon per horsepower). The engineering tells us that we need to build engines designed to run on alcohol to reap the benefits. DOH! Guess if we built the engines, made the fuel, charged less for it than gasoline, the money would stay in this country. WOH!!! Could that spell economic benefits? So what is the first step? Tell the truth. Make sure everyone knows who has been covering up the positive benefits to our economy and then, us the public, should cry out for our alcohol fueled cars. By the way read this report from 1994....http://www.fao.org/docrep/T4470E/t4470e08.htm

THERE IS NO "speeding up of drilling" FOKKS! There's more oil east of Missourri than in all of Saudi Arabia! And it's aready been drilled. We have enough oil shale here in Colorful Colorado! to bury the entire middle east. Wake the hello up my friends...we been rused. Hug your kids and love your wife, because that's all we have keft that is genuine and pure. The rest of this is meaningless...really.

@Whiteman...we could run everthing off of compressed natural gas, but "they" won't let US! They tax the hello out of CNG to the point it's cheaper to burn diesel oil! (an byproduct leftiover when you refine crude oil into gasoline...all the "big rigs" burn it. We've beem sold down the river folks. hold on to your kids. It's gonna get bumpy.

It's WRITEMAN Phil..... Like what I'm doing right now??? And the point is that CNG is still ancient solar energy. Fossil fuels are not sustainable. We shouldn't drill or mine or whatever, just grow it. Solar energy freshly stored.
