Caylee Anthony's grandparents apply to trademark her name

Caylee Anthony's grandparents have applied for trademarks on her name as well as the phrase "Justice for Caylee" to prevent others from using or profiting from the slain Florida toddler's likeness, the couple's lawyer said Tuesday.

George and Cindy Anthony's lawyer also sent a letter this week to Internet marketing company Cafepress.com, demanding that it stop selling a slew of merchandise labeled "Justice for Caylee." The items included T-shirts, boxer shorts, thongs, aprons, Christmas stockings and pet food bowls.

"This website is an affront to the memory of Caylee Anthony and the family will not tolerate the malicious production of her name in any format," stated a May 17 letter from Orlando attorney Mark Lippman  to Cafepress' legal department.

The letter asked that the site pull the merchandise, which it says is libelous in nature, and provide an accounting of all sales and proceeds from the merchandise.

Cafepress had yet to receive the letter, a representative for the California-based company said Tuesday. Cafepress does not create the content on its site, the representative said. The designs are created by consumers, who upload them to the site.

Caylee Anthony's name has appeared on T-shirts, buttons, fliers and merchandise such as dolls since her disappearance in 2008.

Her mother, Casey Anthony, is charged with first-degree murder. Her trial began last week with jury selection in Pinellas County, Florida.

To all who are critical of George and Cindy. Walk a mile in their shoes. This whole mess would take it's toll on any parent. People making money on their murdered grand-daughter should be ashamed os theirselves. As a parent and grandmother myself, I would be irrate if it were my child and especially my baby grand-daughter. Lighten up on George and Cindy.

Bev, when did old pizza start smelling like a dead body? The more these two depart from their original (true) story, the less empathy I have for them... Make no mistake about it, I am totally on the side of defenseless Caylee.

D.. They are parents and what parent wants to believe their daughter could be capable of such a horrible crime? They know the smell of decomp, a nurse and police investigator knows that baby girls body was in the trunk of that car. Their whole world has been turned upside down and now their daughter is going to point the finger at them. I can't imagine the grief these two feel. They know the truth about Casey.

the grandparents are the ones who want to profit from her name. i am sure there will be a book written, or a movie made in which they will be the ones to profit from. these justice for caylee pages and groups on the internet are not meant for profit, but are meant as a way to remember the life of caylee anthony. i have not seen any that sre for profit. this is an outrage
