Caylee Anthony's grandparents apply to trademark her name

Caylee Anthony's grandparents have applied for trademarks on her name as well as the phrase "Justice for Caylee" to prevent others from using or profiting from the slain Florida toddler's likeness, the couple's lawyer said Tuesday.

George and Cindy Anthony's lawyer also sent a letter this week to Internet marketing company, demanding that it stop selling a slew of merchandise labeled "Justice for Caylee." The items included T-shirts, boxer shorts, thongs, aprons, Christmas stockings and pet food bowls.

"This website is an affront to the memory of Caylee Anthony and the family will not tolerate the malicious production of her name in any format," stated a May 17 letter from Orlando attorney Mark Lippman  to Cafepress' legal department.

The letter asked that the site pull the merchandise, which it says is libelous in nature, and provide an accounting of all sales and proceeds from the merchandise.

Cafepress had yet to receive the letter, a representative for the California-based company said Tuesday. Cafepress does not create the content on its site, the representative said. The designs are created by consumers, who upload them to the site.

Caylee Anthony's name has appeared on T-shirts, buttons, fliers and merchandise such as dolls since her disappearance in 2008.

Her mother, Casey Anthony, is charged with first-degree murder. Her trial began last week with jury selection in Pinellas County, Florida.

Great idea. Lets dispense with the legal process and all of the things that go with it and just hang her based on what we read on the internet. Seems like a good idea. Hey, I heard on the internet that YOU were a murderer. How about we execute you too?

@Golflin: His statement was absolutely anti-perv. If you read the article you'd know there are thongs available in relation to this case. Not only can you not detect sarcasm you apparently can't read either. Go off yourself please. Nobody likes you.

That the Grandparents recognized Casey's instability as a mother and did nothing about it affronts my sense of fair play.

Although the company putting out these items are in questionable taste, so is the elder Anthony's wanting to trademark this poor girl's name and image.

I do not believe their motives are altruistic, but I hope they are. They sound a little unbalanced to me.

Where were these grandparents when the beautiful little girl was alive? The signs had to have been there and they should have seen them. They should have protected her from the monster of a mother.....Now they care about copyrighting her name...what good will that do her now?

@tldixon: Agreed. I like the one bar picture of her where she's next to the guy giving the "shocker" sign next to her. Apparently she had time for 2 in the pink 1 in the stink when she was "out searching for clues to her daughter's disappearance. :O

There's a website by the name Justice for Caylee. They are not pro-Casey, to put it nicely. That's why this is happening. Cindy wants to control what everyone out here feels and thinks and does in relation to anything to do with that family. What's an "affront" to me is that control freak saying the odor from Caylee's dead little body was rotten pizza. The only rotten thing about this is that Caylee has no one to speak for her. Who will give victim impact statements when Casey Anthony is found guilty? Doubt Cindy or George will. Yet they're upset at someone using "justice for Caylee." Figures.
