New York jury indicts Strauss-Kahn on seven counts; court grants bail

[Updated at 3:59 p.m. ET] Strauss-Kahn has been granted bail on several conditions.

He must post a $1 million cash bail, surrender his travel documents and agree to home detention. He must also post a $5 million cash bond.

Strauss-Kahn had previously been held without bail at New York's Rikers Island prison.

[Posted at 3:41 p.m. ET] A grand jury in New York has voted to indict former International Monetary Fund managing director Dominique Strauss-Kahn on seven criminal charges.

The charges are two counts of criminal sexual act in the first degree, sexual abuse in the first degree, sexual abuse in the third degree, unlawful imprisonment in the second degree, attempt to commit rape in the first degree and forcible touching.

Strauss-Kahn was arrested earlier this month and charged in connection with an alleged sexual assault on a 32-year-old housekeeping employee at a luxury suite in a Manhattan hotel.

    Let's see, instant and complete fame-, complete protection, pity from all, nobody second guessing motives, huge monetary reward over the horizon. Why would any woman, makes something like this up?

      LOL. I see your point. But let's not forget the fallacy from motivation. Simply because a person has a motive for X to be true, does not prove that X is false.

    @Michelle:

    This is the way the Justice system *is* in New York. There was nothing untoward in the way his case was handled; on the contrary, if he had been afforded special treatment, *that* would have been wrong.

    Why should he be given better treatment than an citizen of New York charged with the same exact thing? Because he's French?
    Because he's wealthy?

    Don't count your chickens. As they say, you can indict a ham sandwich in NYC. We'll see what happens in superior court where the burden of proof is much higher.

    He who casts the stone... There is info tht the court does not have to provide for the general public and media to put their oppinions and jugement upon before trial. We need to pray for them. Not judge. thats for God and the courts. Wow...
