Ex-teammate: I saw Lance Armstrong inject banned substances

A former cycling teammate said seven-time Tour de France winner Lance Armstrong used performance-enhancing drugs before several events, including the Tour de France, according to an interview with CBS' "60 Minutes."

In the interview, part of which CBS aired Thursday on the "CBS Evening News," Tyler Hamilton admitted that he, Armstrong and members of the U.S. Postal Service team often used banned substances. Hamilton has served a two-year suspension for doping.

Armstrong rebutted the allegation Thursday night on Twitter saying: "20+ year career. 500 drug controls worldwide, in and out of competition. Never a failed test. I rest my case."

Hamilton, who won an Olympic gold medal in 2004, told "60 Minutes" that he knows Armstrong used EPO, which helps boost endurance, several times, including in his win for the 1999 Tour de France.

"I saw (EPO) in his refrigerator. ... I saw him inject it more than one time like we all did, like I did many, many times," Hamilton said. Performance-enhancing drug risks

Armstrong on Thursday night tweeted for his followers to go to, a site dismissing several doping allegations lodged against Armstrong over the years. Armstrong has always said he never took banned substances. He has never failed a drug test but repeatedly has been accused of using performance-enhancing drugs by other riders.

"Tyler Hamilton is a confessed liar in search of a book deal - and he managed to dupe 60 Minutes, the 'CBS Evening News,' and new anchor Scott Pelley," Armstrong lawyer Mark Fabiani said in a statement. "Most people, though, will see this for exactly what it is:  More washed-up cyclists talking trash for cash."

Hamilton, who had previously denied using the substances, said that he and riders took the drugs because they felt they needed to gain an edge.

"(Armstrong) took what we all took ... ," Hamilton told CBS.  "There was EPO ... testosterone ... a blood transfusion."

I think the BIG story would be one where a bicyclist is absolutely incontrovertibly proven to have never taken performance enhancing drugs. (Yeah, yeah, I know. It's hard to prove a negative.)

I wonder what that runner dude is using, the one that runs as fast as a race horse, His last name is lightning or something from Jamaica. Jesus Christ that guy outruns horses, something like 30mph sprints

Any professional sprinter can out run a horse in a short race.

Usain Bolt. I agree with the other commenter. Outrunning a horse isn't that hard. It takes more than 100 meters for a horse to get up to full speed.

The name is Usain Bolt and he is not on any performance enhancing drugs.

for all of you people who claim that Lance is innocent remember these facts. back in 1999 there was NO test for EPO. up until four years ago there was no test for HGH. three years ago when they finally found a way to detect EPO and HGH they went back and tested all of the samples that Lance gave when he was winning all of those tours and his samples ALL came back POSITIVE for HGH and EPO. his excuse then was the french had contaminated his test results. and the excuse for never testing positive doesnt fly any more because as of today MARION JONES HAS NEVER TESTED POSITIVE EITHER! had she not gotten caught up in a bad check kiting scheme she never would have gotten caught either. and if Lance is so clean as he claims and as you all believe? how in the hell was he beating an ENTIRE FIELD of drug cheats who have tested positive and have confessed to doping when they were LOSING to Lance?

You sound like a runner-up too. I find it amazing the only time GUILTY people are found is when a separate party is already found and punished. If this guy was to be believed it would have been when and if they did it together not after his comet already burned out.

Like Lance said, He's taken hundreds of dope tests, never failed one. So these jealous rats are trying to attack his credibility? I'll go with Lance & the Federation that tests the athletes. they all take the same tests. If he was dirty, the tests would have shown it. More conspiracy nuts at work here. They probably believe the worlds going to end tomorrow too

Ok.....what/who are you going to believe: 1) over 500 plus tests spanning 20+ years all of which NEVER found any doping in Armstrong or 2) someone who syas Armstrong "did it" but who himself DID get caught for doping, is now on suspension and who probably needs cash????? I believe the technology.

If they were all using, and all took the same tests, then it was a level playing field, which is the goal isn't it?

Another point regarding "eyewitness" testimony: there are a whole lot of people in jail today who were convicted of crimes they did not commit through eyewitness testimony. A few of the lucky ones get out on DNA evidence. So, right now you have two less than credible eyewitnesses saying Lance doped, and scientific evidence saying he did not. Who you gonna believe?

It would certainly dissapoint me, but not completely surprise me that one of my all time greatest athletes/heros was doping after what has happened in the cycle sport.
If their is a drug to boost performance, and you are very highly motivated, there is a way to beat the drug test. Lance has been amazing for the sport, and his performances have been nothing short of super-hero quality, I have always asked myself how he continues to do what he does on the track. I have a wight lifting/aerobic teacher background, and I would like to hold out positive hope that his brilliant career did not come from a hypo-needle...

everybody and i all know that Lance DID dope. come on, almost all his former teamates were caught: Floyd Landis, Hamilton, Herrera who were at one point all in Lance's team! Floyd said it, Hamilton said it, Lance should admit! but then he would lose a lot! so he prefers to remain a liar and tell everybody that he did not dope. all of you gusy who say you don't care, you just want to close your eyes and refuse to admit the truth that Lance is a liar and did dope! marion Jones always said she never doped as well...!! these people are not champs, they are liars and cheaters.
