Florida boy wrestles 6-foot alligator back to house

Michael Dasher thought he had hooked a good-sized fish Wednesday.

The 10-year-old and two friends were fishing in a canal near his home in Rockledge in Brevard County, Florida, when the line snapped.

Michael's buddy, Kentral Welch, thought his friend was reeling in a big one "...until I saw his face," CNN affiliate WKMG in Orlando reported.

What they were staring at was a 5-foot-9 long alligator, which charged at the boys. Michael says he used a stick and even got on the animal's back. Then Michael dragged the gator home.

Wildlife officers were called and said they had to tell Michael he could have been charged with a felony for capturing an alligator. He says he learned his lesson. Next time, he'll just out run it.

    Yes!
    Good for Michael Dasher!
Don't book him for a felony: buy the kid a beer!
(I love my black alligator briefcase! Open for PETA insults now: bring it on.)

Just got back from overseas. Somewhat horrified by the story about a woman in Minnessota being charged for downloading 21 songs for personal use. Everyone that owns a windows based system that connects to the internet should be charged. Windows cookies makes a ciopy of web pages in whole or in part and that is copyright inffringment is it not. The crimminal court system in ;the uniited states is going to be very busy....yous truly Ross....

Just glad we're not reading about another kid in Florida killed by an alligator which is usually how this story ends.

@ellis, I've never had alligator but I have tried snapping turtle and it does taste like chicken so I'd assume alligator does too.

The question is where were the parents. I lived in Ocala Florida for a year when I was 7 and even though we lived on a river my brothers and I were never allowed to go near the river by ourselves because of the alligators.

The kid obviously doesn't know his danger boundaries...or he may well become the next Steve Irwin. Crikey!
