Florida boy wrestles 6-foot alligator back to house

Michael Dasher thought he had hooked a good-sized fish Wednesday.

The 10-year-old and two friends were fishing in a canal near his home in Rockledge in Brevard County, Florida, when the line snapped.

Michael's buddy, Kentral Welch, thought his friend was reeling in a big one "...until I saw his face," CNN affiliate WKMG in Orlando reported.

What they were staring at was a 5-foot-9 long alligator, which charged at the boys. Michael says he used a stick and even got on the animal's back. Then Michael dragged the gator home.

Wildlife officers were called and said they had to tell Michael he could have been charged with a felony for capturing an alligator. He says he learned his lesson. Next time, he'll just out run it.

      Saving his life didn't require draggin the alligator back to his house.

      Billy boy, do you remember being viloently attacked by an apex predator when you were 10 years old? Don't judge this kids actions. I promise you the alligator didn't give it a second thought and none of the other alligators formed a committee to penalize the attacking alligator for its actions.

    What a bunch of stupid cops. The kid not only saved his own life, he beat the stuffing out of that gator. I guess down there police officers have to check their brain in at the door.

    What a brave kid!! Im sure he wanted to show his mom that he was able to control an alligator that tried to kill him. He could have killed it but didn't. Plus the wildlife "experts" were able to come to the home and get the alligator without searching. The alligator probably would have attacked again if it were left where it was.

    @Ellis:
    As you have absolutely no idea how to put a sentence together that does not contain vitriolic hate and/or profanity, my educational backround is rather irrelevant to you.

    I have done nothing to you.
    Please do not cast aspersions on me.
    Thank you.

    @sharbe, it wouldn't have had the same effect as rattling his nerves a little. Thankfully the boy and his friends didn't turn into alligator doo doo.

    Really don't understand why everyone is giving this kid kudos. What the wildlife management team should've done was take a whip to both his and his parents backside.

      For what ? Did you not read the same thing everyone else read ? Obviously your comprehension skills are lacking because the kid said "it came at them" so what did you expect him to do ? If you don't know gators at all the can burst up to 30 mph which is a lot faster than most sprinters especially at 10 years old . Maybe the wildlife officers should whip you for your stupidity and your parents for raising stupidity.
