This man is worthy of far more than the single sentence above. NPR reported this over an hour ago, with far more information and appreciation of his contributions.

CNN will give this story a little more depth once they find out more details...I think they just run these stories just to be the first to blog it.

Gil Scott Heron is the father of hip hop. It's roots go back to him and his powerful words of conscousness.

He shaped my youth as a singer/songwriter, as well. I hope he died from natural causes, in a peaceful manner. I don't know how old he was, but it seems too soon for him to leave us. He will live on in his very excellent music now!

Chrissy, did your English teacher ever teach you to capitalize your name since it is a proper noun? Work on it. And BTW, there is at least one more Ellis. He is nicer. Don't confuse me with him.

Pix knows a lot about journalism. Having a degree in it is not relevant to knowledge, considering today's colleges and universities, but Pix probably does have a related degree–or several.
I, too, never heard of Scott-Heron at all. I think this article is a result of PR from his record company, sent out in hopes of reviving sales of a past hit.

I wasn't supposed to have to work today, but there was an equipment problem, so I have to check out the repairs made last night. Maybe I'll be back later.
