Source: Bin Laden considered Pakistan protection deal

Osama bin Laden considered seeking a deal with Pakistan for protection of al Qaeda leaders in Pakistan and in return al Qaeda would refrain from attacking Pakistan, a U.S. official told CNN. The revelation surfaced as American agents analyzed the documents that were seized in the May 2 raid of bin Laden's compound in Abbottabad, according to the official who was not authorized to speak on the record.

Most of the comments I just read on this site were off topic and hopelessly moronic.

Well, here's on the topic. If the Navy Seals have the time, lets set them on the Pakistani military and civilian leadership. Bin Laden is dead, now lets deal with the corrupt country that protected him and the Taliban.

Whatever the truth of OBL's desire for Pakistani protection, which he was enjoying unofficially anyway, there 'must' be those within the Pakistani government with whom he could depend on for a sympathetic ear, and to press his case.

For reasons, both immediate and far-reaching, the US/Pakistan alliance have agreed to remain silent on this question, but that silence also has a price – more wasted US blood and treasure.

I just read scathing remarks by x-pres of Pakistan, Pervez Musharaff. I understand why, after reading this blog. Pakistan was seemingly set to give bin Laden & his gang immunity. No wonder Musharaff now points a finger at the U.S. & President Obama! In my opinion, & it aint humble, if a nation gives sanctuary to our enemies & wont work with us to capture or anihilate them, we have the right to get them on our own! Bin Ladens compound was a few miles away from a Pakistani military post!! And they had "no idea he was there"?!? Tell that to your grand mother, even she wont believe you,Pakistan!

If they knew Osama was there then they should have known that the Americans had invaded their air space. You can fly 5 choppers into a country for 2 hours and near the "military academy" without the Pakistanis even knowing?

If they didn't know that the U.S. was conducting a loud military operation near their military post, how can they know bin laden was living there? It can't be both. Use her head.

Didn't say the info was new Chrissy, it's not as old as you purport but it isn't new information a couple of years old. The info your talking about is Al qaeda not the muslim brotherhood. We are still learning about that organization, all we have now are bits and pieces of that puzzle. For instance we know their leader is related to al Zawahiri, we know they pose a threat in egypt and libya but we don't know how big that threat is yet. We know they were formed in the 30's and that they're radical but that is about all we really know of them so far.

By the way if you asked most Americans who the muslim brotherhood was the answer would most likely be I don't know. Hell most Americans don't even know who their own elected officials are.
