NATO apologizes for Afghan airstrike that it says killed 9 civilians

A coalition commander offered his alliance's "sincere apologies" Sunday for an airstrike that he said killed nine civilians in southern Afghanistan.

Maj. Gen. John Toolan, the head of the International Security Assistance Force's command in southwest Afghanistan, said his apology was being made "on behalf of the coalition" and its top leaders, including U.S. Army Gen. David Petraeus. He pleaded with Afghans to not only forgive, but also to work with coalition forces in hopes of bolstering their security.

"I offer our heartfelt apologies to the families and friends of those killed," Toolan said in a statement. "I ask that the Afghan people continue to trust and assist their security forces, so that together we can stop the senseless killing brought upon us by an enemy who wants to exploit the Afghan people through fear and violence."

Earlier, Afghan and NATO officials said that Saturday's attack in Helmand province killed a dozen children and two women. There was no immediate explanation for the disparity between this figure and the toll of nine civilians killed offered Sunday by Toolan, who also noted that a U.S. Marine was killed immediately before the strike.

@nur amabo nur, OK I googled your suggestions and except for Spain buying a company that owns some PRIVATE toll roads in Texas you are utterly wrong. China is buying water from the Great Lakes not the Lakes themselves. The UN absolutely doesn't own any national parks-they're all owned by the US Department of Interior which to say is us the people of the United States. Learn,Think, post in that order Please.

If your saying we shouldn't be involved in Libya- yeah I totally agree. If your saying we pay too much of the funding for the UN, once again totally agree. If your saying the muslim brotherhood is deeply involved with the "Arab Spring" then I'd say there seems to be a lot of evidence to think so. Even former FBI Director Mueller has stated as much to Congress and he's a lot more "in the know" than any of us are.

Google "World heratage sites" if they were owned by DoI wouldn't that be "American heratage sites" ?
Water is the chief substance that makes a lake ! No water no lake. I see where the confusion was there, but still, are you ok with our gov selling what should be our water to China ?
Private highways owned by other countries inside the US, this is what NAFTA has done for us. Really, your ok with that?

On the Water-so it's not ground water there's plenty of rain to replenish it, besides if "Global Warming is real then there'll be too much water. Besides France sells drinking water to us, why not make money off a renewable resource. As for the private roads-well if it's enhanced travel and they have to abide by US laws then it doesn't matter too much. Not like they would've been built otherwise. If Spain wants to go broke improving our road systems let them. As for national parks look under wiki answers they'll explain it better.

@nur amabo nur, Sorry had to run errands for a few hours, wasn't able to respond to your last post till now, but reading pink panthers' post I'd have to agree with most of what he/she said. I would add that you should start looking at the positive side of things just a little bit instead of so much of the negative.
