Gotta Watch: Remembering Reagan

Ronald Reagan, "The Great Communicator" and conservative icon, served two presidential terms, which included an assassination attempt on his life and his famous call to the Soviet Union to tear down the Berlin Wall. In his post-presidential life, Reagan suffered from Alzheimer's disease and died on June 5, 2004. In today’s Gotta Watch, we remember the actor-turned-statesman.

Reagan's funeral – Political heads, showbiz veterans and admirers all turned out for Reagan's funeral. Nancy Reagan stood silently and stoically as she watched her husband's coffin be loaded into a hearse.

Assassination attempt – News of the Reagan’s shooting shocked a nation as it tenuously waited to learn just how seriously the new president was injured. Details were slim at first, but as the day continued, the world learned Ronald Reagan was in serious danger and required surgery.

Reagan in his own words – He was known for his great communication skills. Watch the delivery, the charisma and the bravado that became synonymous with Ronald Reagan.

Yes, Reagan was a "union killer," which is why he was such a great president and delivered such great economic results. If his successors had done the same, then maybe the UAW would not have succeeded in killing the U.S. automotive industry.......not to mention the city of Detroit.

what ever... yeah at first he delivered great economy returns but only by stealing from our kids and our future... ever wonder why social security is broke?

and as far as the uaw goes... alot of people think they are just lazy union workers that collect a big fat check...wrong. did you know that a line worker at the uaw worker has to work 58seconds out of every minute.. to keep the line going.. tht only leaves 2 seconds a minute for rest..

so i guess you guys think the union workers should only be makeing 10$ an hour or something? most people/new hires can't cut the mustard and quit when they realize how hard they actually work down there making the cars/trucks.. 58 outta 60 seconds is really hard pace to keep up with...

Humanity got ya down? Tired of the few elitists living off the backs of everyone else? Tired of some succubus demon taking a hammer to your privates for the past 17 years? Tired of not getting what you want out of life even though you work hard? Feel like there's one set of rules for you than there is for other people? Well frown no longer! Get the new and improved God! You see this universe belongs to some evil serpent that tricked you into coming here and now you're stuck here in a life full of psychos and sloppy seconds. Well no longer be here with the sc-um and live a heavenly existence ! Simply place the barrel of a shotgun into your mouth and pull the trigger. Bang boom easy. Phone lines are open.

Ronald Reagan was such a wonderful person. People knew he was genuine in everything he did, i support what he did with the unions, Unions have outlived their usefulness!!!!!!! Their long-time stranglehold on companies like GM and Ford show what kind of damage they can do to once-strong businesses!! Unions are not the answer. The unions are a modern day form of the mafia!

Isn't interesting that the people who blast the President are those who couldn't come close to doing the job themselves?

It seems that manners and proper upbringing are a dying trait. Just because you disagree with someone on policy, doesn't mean that you make personal attacks. Honor and respect are due to them simply because of the office in which they hold.

Don't get me wrong, I think Obama is doing ok, but I'm not going to mince my words about anyone. American presidents for the past 70-80 years have dropped bombs on sleeping children. I think their skin is thick enough to handle a few rude people and their name calling.

He also fired traffic controllers after the union voted to support him. Then in his first speech he attacked people on disability and specified a man from richmond, va. Turned out teh guy really was disabled. Reagan tomestonesaid everyone has a purpose but he didnt live up to that.

Bob, he fired those traffic controllers because they went on strike and were holding up progress at airports everywhere. He rehired new ones and kept things running for the people's majority. Oh, by the way, when I saw his grave at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library it read, "I know in my heart that man is good, that what is right will always eventually triumph, and there is purpose and worth to each and every life." Sounds like a decent individual who tried to do the best he could for his country.

    • Use of Wisdom Doesn't Help Partisan Hacks

One quote (probably written by a speech writer) that was used as his epitaph does not make the man a decent individual. His entire record of attacking the poor, or attacking government, or attacking government employees, or trading arms for hostages, firing the ATC's, etc. show the true man Reagan was: a politician who even sold out his OWN ideals.

Since we're quoting the man let's have another: "Where Free Unions And Collective Bargaining Are Forbidden, Freedom Is Lost" – Ronald Reagan

How about this memory? Don Regan, former CEO of Merrill Lynch, orders President Reagan to hurry up a speech.

interesting to me that he is still a conservative icon... he wouldn't last a second in the GOP today... he gave us:

    amnesty for illegal aliens
    massive amounts of spending
expensive government intervention into American's private lives

Reagen Raygun was as bad a president as The Shrub almost. I wish we never had to be constantly reminded about CRACK Coanine and the Tra d of Guns for drugs and the rest of his dirty dealings. If there is a hell I hope he is there.
