Gotta Watch: Remembering Reagan

Ronald Reagan, "The Great Communicator" and conservative icon, served two presidential terms, which included an assassination attempt on his life and his famous call to the Soviet Union to tear down the Berlin Wall. In his post-presidential life, Reagan suffered from Alzheimer's disease and died on June 5, 2004. In today’s Gotta Watch, we remember the actor-turned-statesman.

Reagan's funeral – Political heads, showbiz veterans and admirers all turned out for Reagan's funeral. Nancy Reagan stood silently and stoically as she watched her husband's coffin be loaded into a hearse.

Assassination attempt – News of the Reagan’s shooting shocked a nation as it tenuously waited to learn just how seriously the new president was injured. Details were slim at first, but as the day continued, the world learned Ronald Reagan was in serious danger and required surgery.

Reagan in his own words – He was known for his great communication skills. Watch the delivery, the charisma and the bravado that became synonymous with Ronald Reagan.

Oh really?!? Well, then, who was Peggy Noonan?

And this is the problem with the Right Wing; it is populated by morons who simply don't know the facts...and that's dangerous to America. THE FACT IS, Reagan had MULTIPLE speech writers.

Multiple speech writers or not. At least Reagan was able to complete an entire sentence without a teleprompter. Face it, Obama was all about change. Do you have any left in YOUR pocket??? I sure as hell don't.

  3. George Patton

How ironic? The Republican party was founded in 1854 by a left-wing fanatic such as Abraham Lincoln and today is composed of right-wing fanatics such as Reagan and Bush. That's what I call a 180 degree turn!!! Besides,it was actually Nancy Reagan rather than her husband Ronald, who was the true President at the time. Ronald suffered from Alzheimer's disease which was never made public until 1994.

George: that's a good observation. The turn you mention occurred in the lat 1940's when racist democrats known as the Dixiecrats began defecting from the democratic party (so the dems. have also had a 180 turn). Many of them ended up running as republicans, polluting the GOP. I wouldn't refer to Reagan as a fanatic though, considering that most neoconservatives today view him as being a pinko.

Patton is so far out in left field that I am going to have to purchase a high powered telescope to see him. Jesus, where do these morons come from anyway....

And by the way Patton. Stop using the name of a celebrated General who I know is turning over in his grave at the thought of a mealy mouthed liberal using his name. Pick something else ok? Thanks. Appreciate it.

Raygun's big claim to fame was his ballyhooed statement, ' Mr. Gorbachev, tear down that wall'. Oh ,wow. The Soviet Union was already falling apart. I'm sure Gorbachev was really impressed. Raygun was the biggest phony most of us have ever seen.

The scary part about Patton and others of his moronic ilk, is that they have been reproducing and now outnumber the rest of us. The real scary part is that they now know how to vote....

  5. Ari

An economic terrorist, who destroyed many of the protections and safeguards that held our economy together for decades. he waged war on the poor and stuffed the pockets of the rich...

he was an absentee president, not really interested in the daily chores, more interested in publicity and socializing.

anyone who celebrates this fool, would have to have Alzheimers.

Ok. Regan was a debateable president. That we can all agree on. But why , in heavens name, does he keep coming up in the freakin' news as being most memorable? He didn't do anything that great. did he emanicipate anyone? Communication is sometimes propaganda. What made him a 'great' communicator? Because he spun situations to make himself look good? How about CNN doing a section just on remembering Presidents... not just regan. i know i am tired of hearing about the day he was shot. i am sure james brady has lived with it every day. heck... let's also remember the day Regan had polyps removed!

The state of Florida should bring ol’ sparky out of retirement for this psycho. Casey Anthony should ride ol’ sparky till her head flames up like the Ghost Rider. She’s spouted nothing but lie upon lie since day one.

By the way... while everyone was 'remembering' actual news was happening in the Dallas\Ft. Worth airport when an American-Eagle plane had problems after landing and had a small brake fire that required passengers to evacuate onto the runway. i guess people dealing with issues today do not compare to those of dead presidents when it comes to being newsworthy.

  14. Norm - not that one

There is ten times the bull coming from republicans fanatics, treating Reagan as though he was "America's Savior" and "God" all wrapped up in one person; than there was during the years he was one of the most psychotic, incompetent, TRAITOR to America.

They're sure spending tons of dollars on PR to make this airhead, moron, look like a saint – JUST because he pushed outrageous, ultra fanatical conservative, republican, politics at us.

I see the trolls are out en force today.
    And such a wide variety!

Reagan was an average President at best.
He is remembered because he was a part of the entertainment industry that is so prevalent in what passes for "news" today.
    That's all.
    Nothing more, nothing less.
    Nothing to see here, folks.
    Let's move on.
