Syria: 'Armed gangs' kill 80 security forces

Dozens of people were killed Monday in the northern Syrian city of Jisr Al-Shugur in the third consecutive day of violence there, according to reports from the government and opposition groups.

State-run Syrian television reported that 40 members of Syria's security forces were killed in an ambush by "armed gangs" in the city and that some of the bodies were mutilated and thrown along the banks of the Assi River, three were killed when government buildings were set afire and another 37 were killed in clashes at a security center.

State television further reported that the "armed gangs" had stolen five tons of dynamite from a storage area near the Al Abyad Valley Dam. The state security forces were facing hundreds of armed men in Jisr Al-Shugur and were trying to lift the siege of a neighborhood that had been taken over by the "gangs," state TV reported.

It said the state was sending reinforcements.

A resident of Jisr al-Shugur, however, said the city was calm Monday, and that the clashes happened at nearby Khan Shaykhun, where 20 residents and an unknown number of security forces were killed.

He said residents were using hunting rifles.

The Syrian Revolution Facebook page said 10 helicopters were firing at civilians. The page predicted a major military incursion Monday night and appealed to residents to evacuate as soon as possible to Turkey.

An opposition member who lives outside Syria but has sources inside the country who have proved reliable in the past said the clashes over the past three days in Jisr Al-Shugur, Khan Shaykhun and surrounding villages were between members and supporters of the Islamist group the Muslim Brotherhood and the Syrian security forces.  He said that 90 security members and 23 opposition members were killed Monday. In addition, nine tanks were destroyed and two helicopters were downed, he said.

Arabs kill more Arabs than Jews kill Arabs. But it's more fun to blame the Jews.

  7. Anthony's Case Posts

While Casey Anthony's murder trial played out in front of the nation last week, another, quieter case involving a dead child was being tried in the same Orlando courthouse.

Amanda Brumfield, 32, the estranged daughter of Billy Bob Thornton, sat just 13 floors below in Florida's Orange County Courthouse, accused of murdering 1-year-old Olivia Madison Garcia. On Friday, she was convicted of aggravated manslaughter.

How did a baby - Brumfield's goddaughter, no less - die while in her care on that day in October 2008?

Brumfield claims Olivia's death was an accident, and that the baby had simply fallen a short distance out of a playpen. But prosecutors said it would be "impossible" for that type of fall to cause the 3-inch fracture found on the girl's skull and the bleeding and swelling on her brain.

    An Estrangement

Since Brumfield's arrest, the details of the case have been intertwined with questions about Brumfield's relationship with her Oscar-winning father.

Thornton, 55, has admitted he wasn't around for her when she was young; he and her mother, Thornton's first wife Melissa Gatlin, split in 1980, and Brumfield has made clear the separation stung.

"He's pretty much made me feel like I've been shut out," Brumfield told Inside Edition in 2001. "I mean, I have nothing against him. I love him. He's my father. I just want him to be around. I don't want to cry, but it's not fair to watch him on TV every day, and I can't even get a call."

Thornton, who has three younger children by two other women, has spoken about his guilt regarding Brumfield.

"She didn't grow up with me, and so we were pretty much strangers for years," Thornton told the U.K.'s Mail on Sunday in 2005. "Then a few years later, we reconnected, and it's really good now."/

#5 copied that statement directly from the articles on the IN SESSION Blog. The only thing thought out was where to paste the statement, which is on every thread of *this* blog, for maximum annoyance.

  13. Anthony's Case Posts

How many of us (you) so called experts in our fields are scratching our heads. We are some of the brightest in the industry (Law Enforcement, FBI, and Forensics Experts; etc.,). We are school instructed, many years of hands on with real world experiences. and trained in most cases by the very best. Please tell me what Vass’s patent/monies have to do with a missing child, a child’s body found at that child’s body later to be that of Caylee Anthony? Why don’t we post for the Florida population each day like we do the deficit how much this trial is costing; because one parent according to her turned her only child over whom again? State stop delaying and denying.
