2 people die as bear flies through SUV

A bizarre auto accident involving two vehicles and a bear has left two people and the bear dead, Canadian authorities said.

Police in Quebec said a 300-pound male black bear wandered onto a road and was struck by an eastbound Pontiac Sunfire. The impact sent the animal hurtling through the air, where it smashed the windshield of a westbound Nissan Pathfinder sport utility vehicle and went out through the back window, regional police spokesman Officer Martin Fournel said.

"It was a 300-pound bullet," he said.

The SUV's 35-year-old female driver and a 40-year-old man sitting behind her were killed; a 28-year-old front-seat passenger suffered minor injuries, Fournel said. In the Pontiac, neither the driver, a 23-year-old man, nor his 19-year-old male passenger was hurt.

No alcohol or drugs were involved, and police are still trying to determine each vehicle's speed in the 90 kph (56 mph) zone, Fournel said, adding that charges are unlikely.

"It's a first, there's no doubt about that," he said. "We had similar accident several years ago with a deer going through the windshield and ending up in the back seat, where it injured a boy. He wasn't killed, he was hurt. But it was not like this."

It's bear mating season, and many male bears are out looking - sometimes recklessly - for females, so drivers on rural roads should be watchful, hunting guide Daniel Larocque told the Canadian television network CBC.

The accident occurred near the town of Luskville, about 25 miles northwest of Ottawa, Ontario.

Poor bear probably didn't speak french. For decades Quebec has been trying to eradicate anything that speaks anything other than their gutter french.

The bear could have been riding a bike,. relatively smarter than some congress people allowing the last financial debacle to take place -to give 11/2 % loan money to financial schemers. Just smarter period!

How silly are we......not a single tip on road safety and what to do under such situations....instead, people making fun of this tragic incident and its victims...God bless the souls of the deceased and give courage to their family.....

I agree that this isn't funny. But what tips could they possibly give us beyond "try to avoid large airborne wildlife"? Not like you can put on your windshield wipers and flick a 300 pound bear away...

Don't forget to blame nature! After all, we apparently 'own' nature. If there is any conflict between man and nature at any time, it is nature we have to kill. We have a 'divine right' to use nature as we please and if it doesn't bend to our will we just have to elliminate the parts of it that don't conform to our 'need.'

Sad. This is a remarkably freak occurence, sort of boggles the mind and never take things for granted. You never ever know what will happen next. Be grateful for your lives and what you have and do some good to others.

My condolences and prayers for the people who lost their loved ones in this accident and Rest in peace to the people and the bear who lost their lives.

To the nimrods, making retarded jokes, just remember one thing... what goes around, comes around.

So sad for the bear. Glad he took out a couple humans with him. As for the moron in Marina del Rey: with any luck, a guy named Bear, or a bare guy, will punch you off some yacht to drown with one or two other clueless rich turds, circling slowly downward in harbor swill with spent condoms and broken styrofoam cups clogging your obscene gob and cutting agonizing slits in your already-abused sphincter.

You hate humans so much, why don't you just kill yourself, hypocrite.

Just want to thank you for giving me another example of poor English for my Honors students to analyze and correct–and to laugh at. I love Texas and have hundreds of relatives there. They laugh at people like you.

Lets face the facts. If bears are flying now, we are all dead men. They beat us on the evolutionary scale. I, for one, welcome our new flying bear overlords.

      A) I doubt that the families give a flying...nevermind...the families of the victims are unlikely to be reading the comments posted at CNN in a search for sympathy.

      B) CNN is the ones that worded this as a cautionary tale about the dangers of driving through an area with low-flying bears.

@ George Jr. "your jealous" my jealous, his jealous, her jealous, our jealous, their jealous, its jealous... George, how many jealouses are yours, and how many are mine? Your jealous, your car, your house, your jealous... See how it works? You can have a car and a house, but you can't have a jealous. Got it? Good! You need the word ' you're '. you're = you are. You're jealous-but I'm not. There's absolutely nothing special about Texas. In fact, I can think of a whole lot of negatives...

What's so negative about Texas? I heard that it's state law to give you a handgun after every purchase of a bottle of Jack Daniels. That sounds like fun to me.

Does anyone know how Bear's family is doing? This has to be a hard time. Bear was finally in his prime, having just learned to fly, and just like that, his life is taken away. RIP Bear.
