A bizarre auto accident involving two vehicles and a bear has left two people and the bear dead, Canadian authorities said.
Police in Quebec said a 300-pound male black bear wandered onto a road and was struck by an eastbound Pontiac Sunfire. The impact sent the animal hurtling through the air, where it smashed the windshield of a westbound Nissan Pathfinder sport utility vehicle and went out through the back window, regional police spokesman Officer Martin Fournel said.
"It was a 300-pound bullet," he said.
The SUV's 35-year-old female driver and a 40-year-old man sitting behind her were killed; a 28-year-old front-seat passenger suffered minor injuries, Fournel said. In the Pontiac, neither the driver, a 23-year-old man, nor his 19-year-old male passenger was hurt.
No alcohol or drugs were involved, and police are still trying to determine each vehicle's speed in the 90 kph (56 mph) zone, Fournel said, adding that charges are unlikely.
"It's a first, there's no doubt about that," he said. "We had similar accident several years ago with a deer going through the windshield and ending up in the back seat, where it injured a boy. He wasn't killed, he was hurt. But it was not like this."
It's bear mating season, and many male bears are out looking - sometimes recklessly - for females, so drivers on rural roads should be watchful, hunting guide Daniel Larocque told the Canadian television network CBC.
The accident occurred near the town of Luskville, about 25 miles northwest of Ottawa, Ontario.
Since the last couple people commenting on this story are apparently illiterate, I will retell the story in a way they can understand.
Once upon a time a bear walked out into the road. That was a bad idea because Car 1 traveling Direction 1 hit the bear. Ouch. The bear went flying into the air, where Suv 2, traveling the opposite direction of Car 1 smashed into the flying bear. Suv 2 was traveling at such speed that the bear smashed through the windsheild, then killed and/or mauled and killed 2 people in Suv 2, before flying and/or smashing his way out the back windshield. Bear dies. 2 people in Suv 2 die. People in Car 1 live/wish they had out their camera phones.
THE END!

Isn't this a long way from Chicago? I guess the Bears are on the road now, early for their season isn't it?
The lockout has us wandering all over the place looking aimlessly for tihngs to do
I've seen a house fly, I've seen a horse fly, but I've never seen a bear fly.
I think the more grievous error in this article is the headline. Did the bear sprout wings? Flying bears now? Are we in Oz?
The bear travelled at high velocity at quite a distance with all four feet off the ground. It flew. Similar to a piece of lead which, on its own, merely clings to whatever surface on which it is placed. When acted upon by an outside force, it can fly at high velocity for quite a distance. Neither can hoist themselves successfully onto the air currents and guide themselves on a self-determined path, though. But both the bear and the bullet fly when launched with enough force.
BTW, pigs can also fly when launched with enough force. So do human cannonballs.
The driver of a small American made car survives, while two people in Nisson Pathfinder suv die. Glad I drive an American made and engineered car!
all i can say is what a dumb _ss you are, who made the vehicles had nothing to do with who survived.... the sunfire launched the bear from the low profile front-end (like a scoop) which then got airborn into the suv windshield. The suv could have been any brand/make vehicle and it could have went through the windshield. You need to take some classes like physics, engineering idiot.
Dont think that has much to do with it. Im sure if the bear was hit by the suv, it would have gone through the window of the pontiac
Yes American windshields are much stronger than foreighn ones. Give your head a shake buddy.
It flew through the glass of the pathfinder while only hitting the bumber of the pontiac...don't let this fool you into thinking american cars are safer/better. drive safely in your amerocar...be very careful.
American or foreign who cares. I think the real lesson here is to not drive your car into a flying bear.
The kids in the American car were gays/lesbians returning from a pride Parade. The two people killed in the Nissan were right-wing Christians. So you see the obvious connection here.
that's just a coincidence. the pontiac sunfire is the same size as a honda civic. also some were manufactured in mexico.
Its not the journalist fault you do not know how to read.
Sari, I agree. CNN editors are apparently in kindergarden to the 3rd grade.
The irony here is amazing. – "kindergarden to the 3rd grade"
It was staged
It sounds like that scene in Meet Joe Black where the guy gets nailed by cars.
i was the only one in the theatre laughing my butt off during that scene.
You just never know what the day will bring.
"REMEMBER only YOU can prevent fore... " [car screech]
Two people died, show some respect.
They edited the article to please the enormous amount of stupid people out there. It doesn’t matter though. It will only be a matter of time before they find something else to complain about. I have fulfilled my quota for today. Seeing stupid people in action.
Shltty luck...
Kinda makes me wanna go & do a search engine seek for 'RIDING BEAR BACK' and watch that video, as a form of revenge for us humans.
OMG flying bears! We are all doomed!!!!!!
