For years, women across America have dealt with glass ceilings. But now, women in Ohio have a new problem - glass floors.
A $105 million courthouse opened in Franklin County, Ohio, on Monday, but the builders seemed to have forgotten one thing - the bottom of the stairs, reports affiliate 10TV. The staircase is made of glass.
Dress wearers need to avoid taking the stairs, according to Franklin County Judge Julie Lynch, who wears dresses under her robes almost every day.
"I wear dresses because that's my personal choice," Lynch told 10TV. "When you stand under the stairwell, you can see right up through them.”
She speculates that men, who didn’t take half the population into account, designed the stairs.
Attorney Lori Johnson was startled by the transparent stairs. She worries not only about stares, but also how many cell phones have cameras attached.
“The next thing you know, you’re on the internet,” Johnson said, according to 10TV. “It sounds like a lawsuit in the making.”
While security guards warn women about taking the stairs, it seems most are just hoping people will be mature about the situation.
"They hope people will be mature? That's not a solution," Lynch said to 10TV. "If we had mature people that didn't violate the law, we wouldn't have this building."
It's not just glass staircases...the problem occurs with any open staircases. You know like The Brady Bunch house had.
Wall off the area under the staircase with more glass, and fill it with plants. Problem solved.
Problem?
Not sure if anyone else mentioned this before. As a temporary solution, why don't they tape dark paper on the bottom on the bottom of each step? If it is on the bottom, it will not be torn up by people's feet, and it will keep everything from being on view.
I'd like to rent space under the stairs for cafe – for the busy legal comunity to relax with a latte and take in the "view". Now that the word's out, I'll bet the more adventurous strumpets will deliberately saunter down the stairs panti-less. Sounds like good clean fun. Just put a sign so prudes don't get "surprised", although watching that spectacle would be fun too.
Ohh god, really? In the USA hardly anyone wears skirts anymore, it's all pants. A long skirt, well... no one is going to be able to navigate a peep up that anyway. Lastly, how many women step foot in that place, that would take the stairs would you want to peep at their undergarments anyway? I would say few...
First off, this a courthouse. How many people are seriously going to just be standing around? Secondly, stop acting like you're going to willingly take the stairs. Most people will take the elevator. Thirdly, you've been properly warned. If you choose to ignore that and happen to be seen, that's your own fault. In case anyone hasn't noticed, there are bigger issues going on in this country than a glass staircase. Get over it.
"She speculates that men, who didn’t take half the population into account, designed the stairs."
B!tch. If women want to go in to Civil Engineering and Architecture they are more than welcome to.
I'm not getting it.
Are we supposed to make it impossible for people to look at your crotch?
Ok, you can't wear a bikini, or a dress, at all, since they don't cover your crotch completely all the time. You can't even wear shorts. You have to wear long pants. All the time, when you're out in public.
Now what's your complaint?
From one man to another, if you need someone to explain it to you so that you "get it", you are never gonna get it. And that speaks volumes about you.
You're right, you don't get it. And from your "logic", you apparently never will
Here is the solution: Grandma Panties! Or... bring back pantaloons!
A simple fix would be to sandblast the underside. They could do it in half a day including the cleanup.
Exactly! Sandblast the glass, and keep the aesthetic integrity of the structure intact.
Sandblast it. That makes sense. What were they thinking with a glass staircase anyway? DUH.
Yes yes, excellent solution.
What WILL they not think of next?
Just frost the glass. Is it really that difficult? The treads are not even transparent. I feel like you would have to be wearing something pretty short to be exposed.
Y'know, this is a problem for guys wearing kilts too. Not that I do, but just sayin'
Ya got that right laddy!
Simple solution folks. The area directly beneath the stairs could be "landscaped" with silk or real raised-flower beds. That way, to really get a look the pervs would have to step over the lip of the flower bed and stand in mud – it's at least a bit of an incentive to maintain some propriety.
A guy who wants to look up a girl's skirt isn't a perv...he's normal. Guys wanting to marry guys are pervs.
Simple solution – wear shorts under your dress. Problem solved.
Oh yes, because that would be amazingly comfortable
