For years, women across America have dealt with glass ceilings. But now, women in Ohio have a new problem - glass floors.
A $105 million courthouse opened in Franklin County, Ohio, on Monday, but the builders seemed to have forgotten one thing - the bottom of the stairs, reports affiliate 10TV. The staircase is made of glass.
Dress wearers need to avoid taking the stairs, according to Franklin County Judge Julie Lynch, who wears dresses under her robes almost every day.
"I wear dresses because that's my personal choice," Lynch told 10TV. "When you stand under the stairwell, you can see right up through them.”
She speculates that men, who didn’t take half the population into account, designed the stairs.
Attorney Lori Johnson was startled by the transparent stairs. She worries not only about stares, but also how many cell phones have cameras attached.
“The next thing you know, you’re on the internet,” Johnson said, according to 10TV. “It sounds like a lawsuit in the making.”
While security guards warn women about taking the stairs, it seems most are just hoping people will be mature about the situation.
"They hope people will be mature? That's not a solution," Lynch said to 10TV. "If we had mature people that didn't violate the law, we wouldn't have this building."
What a total nonsense...the stairs are not made out of glass...there are literally thousands of staircases built like this...
What is that troll doing warning the girls?
Only in America :o)
I guess then there are literally thousands of dumb men engineering/designing. Since when is someone warning someone of something make them a troll? Only some Americans?! : 0
What a stupid judge.
They should all wear underwear under the dress. Problem solved.
If people wanted their underwear seen they would show them when they are not walking on glass staircases!
Uh, problem not solved. Do you think these women want the entire world to see their underwear?
You are a moron. If they catch the pervert, I would hope they would beat the crap out of him.
We have glass stairs here in CA and women go up and down them every day. I sincerely doubt, oh court reporters and attorneys of Franklin County, that people will be trying to see up your Ann Taylor skirts- they can see a lot better on the internet for free.
It's Ohio.
You people are missing the point of the staircase. To be politically correct, they designed the stairs specifically for Muslim women so all non-Muslims have to take the stairs.
Only in America can we actually consider another POV. And we should have on this one. Fail for designers and builders.

"Weiner found in stairwell"
Haaaaa
Actually, according to our new found sensibilities, this makes all women "guilty" of what Weiner did,
"If we had mature people that didn't violate the law, we wouldn't have this building."
Right, because the mark of maturity is obeying every single law, even if it's immoral or baseless.
And it's not immoral to look up someone's skirt!!!!???!!!!! People going to court usually are there for non minor law infractions!
For the last few commenters are you aware that this is a court house where the more unsavory people have to come? Did you not look at the video at how you can almost see up the woman's shorts? This one huge mistake on the part of the designer/engineer!!!
Oh will you quit whining already? For accessibility, there is an elevator if you're SO worried about people looking up your dress. But please remember this: not everyone is so anxious to look up your skirt! Going by your incessant whining in your comments, I sincerely doubt that you're attractive anyway.
@AGuy – Zing!
Good grief AGUY, just cause you're a loser don't assume the other posters are..
I looked up girls skirts in high-school. Open risers, clear view, no undies. That, my friends, made me the successful politician I am today. C'mon, who didn't? There were no elevators. Not a pretty site, either.
Oh look! Misogynists and d-bags adding their two cents! How long did that take??
It's not like there's a row of chairs sitting under the stairs for people to sit in.
It's a big deal because it's not some place that people choose to go. The workers do, everyone else *has* to to stay out of jail.
On the other hand, are there not alternate stairs or even elevators in this courthouse, *especially* for employees?
I'd put up signs that say something like, 'WARNING: EPeople can see up your dress ahead. Your alternate route is..' and so on. How hard is that?
How hard is it to realize that women generally don't want strangers to be able to see up their skirts?
Don't wear skirts. Solved.
Seems like it would be pretty easy to tint the glass. D'oh
Finally someone with some answers! I thought frosting the glass might work also.
Yes, simple answers to seemingly complex problems. And I work cheap, too. 😉
Perhaps a little _too_ friendly for dress-wearers.
This "news" story is further evidence that CNN is slowly moving towards having a website more like TMZ or OK! magazine than the New York Times or Washington Post.
there are millions of staircases like this. And they are all a problem for women. We shouldn't have to deal with this crap. Underwear, yes we wear them and they are private, so that is not a solution. Maturity? Thats a laugh. Women everywhere should complain LOUDLY, Preferably with LAWSUITS
Architects shouldn't have to change their designs because they're worried some woman out there may be offended. Men wear loose fitting shorts with loose fitting boxers all the time which allows our "stuff" to be viewed if someone is standing directly under us. That fact right there gives men more of a reason to complain but you don't hear us doing it do you? STFU or use an elevator.
Hey Catfish, cause perverts like you want to show your stuff woman shouldn't complain that they don't want to show theirs? Ya, makes perfect sense. Not.
I'm willing to bet no one will want to look up your skirt....
That's what this world needs. More woman complaining loudly and more lawsuits.
just change the glass to be frosty or smoky so you can't see through it!
Was it Weiner or Edwards that awarded the contract on this one?
