On the Radar: Pentagon Papers, first lady in Hollywood, Burress announcement

Three things you need to know today.

Pentagon papers: On Monday, the federal government will release in full the Pentagon Papers, the secret government study of the Vietnam War.

While redacted and edited versions of the papers have been published before, most notably in The New York Times and other newspapers, this will be the first time the documents see the light of day in their complete form.

In 1971,  Daniel Ellsberg, a former Pentagon official, leaked the papers, officially titled "United States-Viet Nam Relations, 1945-1967: A Study Prepared by the Department of Defense," revealing that the government had lied to Congress and the American public about the progress of the war.

First lady in Hollywood: First lady Michelle Obama is in Hollywood on Monday to discuss with members of the entertainment industry ways to tell the stories of the nation's military families.

The event is part of the White House's Joining Forces initiative, a campaign launched this year by Michelle Obama and the vice president's wife, Jill Biden.

"Monday’s discussion will shed light on the unique challenges military families face and showcase the families’ strength, resilience and service to our nation. Participants will also discuss ways in which entertainment content can better reflect this American reality," read an announcement from the Writers Guild of America, West.

The panel discussion will be moderated by writer-director J.J. Abrams, whose latest movie "Super 8" led the weekend's box office take.

Other guilds participating include the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists, Directors Guild of America, Producers Guild of America and the Screen Actors Guild.

Burress announcement: Former NFL wide receiver Plaxico Burress, released a week ago from a New York prison after serving 20 months on a weapons charge, will hold a news conference Monday to make an "important announcement," the National Urban League said.

Billed as his first public appearance since his release, the event at the offices of the National Urban League will include Burress, Urban League President Marc Morial, former Indianapolis Colts coach Tony Dungy and Paul Helmke, president of the Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence.

The former New York Giants player was sentenced to prison after accidentally shooting himself in the leg with a .40-caliber semi-automatic pistol he was carrying in his waistband. The incident occurred in November 2008, in the VIP area of the Latin Quarter nightclub in Manhattan.

Burress was not licensed to carry a pistol in either New York or New Jersey, where he lived.

Obama's doing his job? Yeah, that would explain why the economy's in the toilet, right?

What explains why we are in the toilet is that GWB pushed the flush handle for 8 years while standing in the bowl. Now his rich Repub friends are preventing us from doing the things necessary to fix the problem. Things we have known to work ever since FDR took over from Flusher-In-Chief, Pres Hoover.

So the first lady is telling Hollywood how to make movies of military families. What a crock that is. She has no idea of what a military family is and how the live. Getting your picture taken with a few service members does not make her an expert. Most of the military detest both of the Obamas. As a retired US Navy Chief I think I know what I am talking about.
No one has a right to talk about military life unless you have served.

First ladies have always taken up causes; Nancy Reagan- Just say no to drugs, Cannot remember Barbara Bushs, Hillary Clinton the insurance reform, Laura Bush did the reading program, and now Michell Obama diet and giving military Honor. She is meeting with film makers it says with ideas not telling them how to do it.
No matter what programs she takes on republican nay sayers will be negative. One of her causes has been military families and she was visiting them before they were in the white house. Anyone bringing any attention to our men and women in harms way can only make them feel loved, from all of us that appreciate their serving in the service to our country. Thank you men and women who stand up for us with their lives.

What the heck does Michelle Obama know about the makings of Hollywood? Absolutely nothing. What a waste of tax payers money for her to fly out there. Just like her obesity obsession, she knows nothing about it.

Here in the Palin household, before we dive into a platter of fresh, hot road apples, we like to first check each other's precious bodily fluids.

As one person already stated a drowning is an accident. If Caylee did drown why was it necessary to cover her mouth with duct tape? It was interesting to hear on Friday from the woman who called to report the car needing to be towed. When asked if she looked into the car when she was getting the license number what she saw in the car. Her reply was she saw some clothes, etc. and the last thing she named was a blanket. Pictures where shown of what contents were in the front and back seat of the car. Everything was in the car, however, the blanket wasn’t ,perhaps it was on the floor and couldn’t be seen on camera. If I remember correctly Caylee was either wrapped in a blanket or it was found in the bag with her body. Casey Anthony did not show or express any emotions about her daughter being lost or when found dead. She has told so many lies how can anyone believe anything she says. On top of her killing her daughter she is putting the blame on her father. Caylee did love her mother but the question is “Did Casey love her daughter?” Having her freedom by ridding herself of her daughter shows the answer to this quesiton. Casey Anthony only loves herself. I would like to know how a person not having a job has the money to pay for a Nanny? I know she stole her friends checkbook to make purchases at Walmart but it costs money to go clubbing and children have needs. Where did she get all this money? After only a few visits from her family Casey did not want them to visit with her in jail. Casey used the excuse it was because she was being recorded. The day of her trial she turned her mother away. Casey didn’t even want her parents in the trial room. What child with the death sentence pending not want the comfort or help from her parents? As for the tears she sheds are for getting caught. As for the shakin of her head as if indicating no is just part of her acting and lying. Casey has said her father molested her and her brother tried to touch her is just another lie. I was molested by a family member when I was five. Many years later I had a little girl. The one thing I made sure of was never to go to any family function he attended. So why did Casey leave Caylee with George? I believe George and Cindy are in a very difficult situation. They already lost their granddaughter and if Casey is found guility or is set free they still lose their daughter as Casey has shown pure hatred for her parents.

@Gung hoe- If you recall President Bush alienated The United States form most governments and President Obama has gained the trust of other leaders back.
This last month is the only month that has made under 150,000 jobs with last month making over 200,000.
Fuel prices are not made by the president but by speculators. He called them on it and some people for price gouging last month and today it has dropped .17.
If the information on the President Bushs' watch was so valuable, why in 8 years did he not use it.
It has also been argued that waterboarding is not a reliable tool in getting info from a combatant. When you think you are going to die you tend to make stuff up, or say anything to make them stop.
The only person I heard take credit was Cheney for the info. And we all know who gained anything from the war in Iraq was him, from his Contractor company Halburton. The almighty republican capulist wealthy. They drink champaign, what are you drinking?

I have a viable suggestion that would benefit all humanity............first get NATO to bomb the Pentagon...........then have them bomb the UN..............they have them bomb the White House (twice to make sure) and then bomb THEMSELVES!

Any time our enemies know more than the American public about the actions of our US government, it becomes necessary for someone to be a "leaker" and that person should be praise as a hero. This goes double or triple in cases when the government is lying to protect itself and its mistakes from review.

This nation would learn the truth behind 9/11 after decades unless of course an Ellsberg or an Assange gets his hands on the facts sooner.
