Boston Bruins win Stanley Cup; Vancouver fans trash street

The Boston Bruins won their first Stanley Cup in 39 years, defeating the Vancouver Canucks 4-0 Wednesday night in the seventh and deciding game of the National Hockey League's annual championship.

The loss didn't go over well with hundreds of mostly young Canuck fans, who took to the streets and set an overturned vehicle afire.

Some fans stopped to pose in front of the flames. Others danced on top of another overturned vehicle. A dull cloud of gray smoke choked some areas of downtown.

Aerial footage showed Vancouver police wading into the unruly crowd that continually taunted and threw things at the officers. Members of the crowd leaped over one street fire, and officers wrestled several fans to the ground.

These were not Canuck fans. They were criminals who were intent on a riot whether the Canucks won or lost. They came prepared to riot and had the gear to do it with. They have tarnished Vancouver's good name and the people of the world should not judge our wonderful country on a few drunken idiots.

I'm sorry, but I'm not buying the "It's only a few anarchists" excuse, not after seeing blogs from participants, not to mention all the varieties of Canucks jerseys (always liked the black ones with gold and orange trim). I certainly wouldn't assume all Vancouverites were jerks like the rioters, but residents have to admit that any anarchists looking for publicity likely would have headed to that bastion of big-money conservatism, Dallas, or Miami, where another buch of whiners were lamenting a lost series.
No, I think you just have raised some kids who don't have a lot of respect for others.
