'Historic step' as U.N. group passes resolution supporting gay rights
In what the U.S. State Department is calling a "historic step," the U.N. Human Rights Council in Geneva passed a resolution Friday supporting equal rights for all, regardless of sexual orientation.
The resolution, introduced by South Africa, is the first-ever U.N. resolution on the human rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered persons.
It passed with 23 votes in favor, 19 opposed and three abstentions, amid strong criticism of South Africa by some African nations.
Suzanne Nossel, deputy assistant secretary of state for international organizations, told CNN, "It really is a key part in setting a new norm that gay rights are human rights and that that has to be accepted globally."
"It talks about the violence and discrimination that people of LGBT persuasion experience around the world," she said, "and that those issues ... need to be taken seriously. It calls for reporting on what's going on, where people are being discriminated against, the violence that is taking place, and it really puts the issue squarely on the U.N.'s agenda going forward."
Divided opinion continues among some countries about whether the time has come to take up gay rights in the U.N. forum, Nossel said, "so this resolution is really significant as far as gaining widespread support for doing just that."

Fact: Evolution is true, and once you fully understand and grasp it you realize that we are all products of our environment. It should be the goal of every human being to work together to live in a rational, empathetic, scientific world. Gay people are like blacks were in during the civil rights movement. They deserve equal rights just like the blacks yet there were still bigots and Christians that don't like gays because 'God' wants them to burn in hell. Well religion is a load of rubbish, false, and destructive to society.
What angers me is that their ore so many black people against gay rights because they tend to be more religious. I will say to any black person that isn't for gay rights that they need to go back to the back of the bus.
To denounce or belittle religion just shows how low you will go to give life to this sinful act. This sinful act is not the same as the civil rights movement and I wish the gays stop comparing the two. Black people were forced into this situation, being gay is a choice. The civil rights movement was about blacks wanting equal treatment and rights. How about all the gays go back to the closet and stay there to demonstrate how easy it is for blacks, to go to the back of the bus. Come on, lead by example.
I am a religious straight Christian person. But the only sinful act that I have seen on this site is the people who condemn our gay brothers and sisters for doing nothing more than wanting to love another with their whole heart, soul and body. We condemn promiscuity and then we block their desire to be in a committed monogamous relationship. Shame on us. Their is nothing in the New Testament when translated appropriately that condemns ho-mo-se-xual-ity. It is disgraceful that we as Christians have decided that marriage has more to do with what goes on between our knees and our umbilicus than what goes on in our hearts. God sends his messages in mysterious ways. Maybe our gay brothers and sisters are meant to help us understand that a marital relationship goes so much deeper than just the ability to procreate and that true families should be born out of an ability to devote our life to our children rather than the ability to unite a sperm with an ovum.
Fact: Evolution is a theory. And if today's gays are yesterdays blacks, then tomorrows perverts will be todays gays. And if you are into beastiality, you will have to wait until the day after tomorrow. 🙂

I really don't get the association that is trying to be drawn between gay rights and pe-do-philia. All of the statistics show that the majority of ped-o-philes are het-ero-se-xual.
