First female boss at Parris Island

Parris Island, the South Carolina military installation that has trained thousands of young Marines, has its first female commander.

Brig. Gen. Lori Reynolds took over at a change-of-command ceremony Friday at Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island.

"It's not about male or female, it's about highly qualified officers," Capt. Bernadette Newman told CNN Savannah affiliate WSAV. "The Marine Corps gets it right. It's a performance-based society, and if you look at General Reynolds' bio, she has more than enough experience to add value to this, so it is exciting."

The military is quite aware that women are qualified for the tough jobs. It's the supposedly enlightened media that always acts surprised.

There is no moderation at all on this blog. I've noticed the disclaimer has been changed to that effect, the online version anyway not mobile. So,it's just the programmed filters- no live human. You have to go to the political blog for moderated comments. Although junk gets through,no mods means real time discussion. Its a tradeoff.
    Happy Saturday everyone!

Congrats to Brigadier General Reynolds. I'm sure it wasn't an easy climb up the ranks. Female or not, she's gotta have balls. She's a Marine.
As for the PMS comments-it's not like it's a demon that possesses us once a month-we're stronger animals than that. But you keep on believing that fairy tale if it makes you feel better. lol

Who would name themselves after a bunch of disgruntled merchants who would rather see their goods at the bottom of Boston Harbor than to be legally siezed by English warships lurking in international waters. What a bunch of maroons. They wouldn't know US History from World History if not for model globes.

@tee purrrrdy.. teabaggery is a derogatory sch mex ual practice that these people proudly display at their meetings. Essentially when they dump tea into a harbor they are mimicking them tea bag inng some guy's wife.

@ceasar: when "God" abstains from his duties and allows senseless murders to occur then it falls upon us, whether it be as a society or an individual to see that justice is carried out. Sometimes that justice just happens to be meted out by people of questionable reputed such as the case in Tombstone. The Cowboys were an extremely violent group that killed and stole from whomever they could and there are many of their ilk still among us, the only thing that's changed for some is their agenda.

@Tea Pardy: do you read any history, Boston and all the colonies were part of Britain at the time. English Warships didn't have to "hangout" in international waters as you put it. Also the merchants were trying to make a point to King George that the tea taxes were way too high and that it was unfair for the colonies to carry such a large part of the burden of paying for the Motherland's fiscal budget. Read a book sometime you might be surprised at what you learn.
