ATF director expected to resign amid Mexico gun controversy

The acting director of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and firearms is expected to resign amid the ongoing controversy over the "Fast and Furious" operation, two senior federal law enforcement sources told CNN.

Straw buyers were allowed to illegally purchase large numbers of weapons in the operation, some of which ended up in the hands of cartels in Mexico.

Acting Director Kenneth Melson may resign in the next day or two, the sources said.

Attorney General Eric Holder will meet Tuesday with Andrew Traver, head of the ATF field office in Chicago about potentially serving as acting director of the ATF to replace Melson.

This dillweed should be tried for treason for aiding and abetting the enemy! To just let him resign is a travesty; we should bring back tarring and feathering for his trip to Leavenworth! The current administration has totally lost sight of the reason that they are there... to serve and protect the citizens of this country!!

.... what enemy? Mexico isn't our enemy and hasn't been for a while and I'd rather it stay that way. Wouldn't you?

No, Julia.. Mexico isn't the enemy.. but the cartels ARE and the BATFE KNEW that was where the guns would end up! They allowed more straw purchase of weapons (illegal in itself) to people who they already KNEW were doing it illegally and they fed more weapons into that system. Not only should Melson go down, but Holder should as well for attempting to stonewall and cover up the investigation into their own corrupt activities.

Revealed today that there was no surveillance on the weapons as they went into Mexico. This was NEVER about tracing arms trails to the cartels, but about producing a dog and pony show for new gun control legislation on this side of the border.
And why is it no surprise that his replacement will be another Chicago hack?

I can’t believe CNN finally ran a story on this; even though they forgot to include any details. There are people dead and he gets to resign while Holder takes over. Help traffic thousands of firearms across the border, one of which kills a border patrol, and no court dates. Neat-oh!!!

You see this? Potential acting director out of Chicago field office. Chicago itself is one of the most corrupt cities in the nation and Obama held office there. Holder and Obama placing MORE cronies in the mix.
