U.S. lawmaker on fact-finding mission to Syria

U.S. Rep. Dennis Kucinich, the Ohio Democrat who's long been an outspoken anti-war voice in Congress, is visiting volatile Syria to explore whether there is a resolution to the violence spiraling across that country.

Kucinich is part of a small delegation on a fact-finding mission to Syria and neighboring Lebanon.

He said in a statement on Monday that he pursued the trip because his constituents, a Cleveland-area district that includes many Arab-Americans, asked him to look into "conditions on the ground" and see if there's a solution to a situation that's "spinning out of control."

The state-run Syrian Arab News Agency said President Bashar al-Assad met with Kucinich and the accompanying delegation Monday.

    I agree with you Jazzzzzz. We need war sometimes to rid evil. For example,in WWll the Franklin administration tried hard to get us into that war by provocation of the axis forces. The United States fought two wars and the Nazis were defeated. It is sad for the loss of life,but it is a price to pay for peace sometimes.

These four wars that we're currently fighting are not only both useless and unnecessary, but obscene to boot!!! Besides, we need a man like Dennis Kucinich for President but he won't run, unfortunately.

    I hope that some law maker would perk up courage to go on a fact finding mission to the occupied territories of Palestine.
    But who among those up on the Hill would dare lay his career on line for a just cause?
    Ordinary Americans are trying to do that. To bring world attention to this decades old festering issue which by design ( and our complicity) is not to be resolved.

    Still, the USA needs the security for our oil interests that Israel's presence there provides.

    Cultivate allies in the oil rich regions, like Russia & China are doing, don't bomb and invade them. Settle the core issues like Israel-Palestinian conflict in a just and equitable manner.
    But that is statesmanship , a commodity which is very rare with our political leadership who bereft of intellect , have been reduced to gnashing their teeth while waving our missiles on.

    Well tighten your belts a couple notch further, tax hikes, defunding Medicare, Social Security, education & such are on the horizon if we want to avoid defaulting on our borrowings and be classed with the third world countries.
    Heaven forbid if we ever think of ending wars, foreingn aid and the 700 bases we maintain around the world.
