Gotta Watch: Inside cheerleading

They're the rah-rah-rah that get fans and athletes hyped up. Without cheerleaders, how would we know when to be aggressive or use defense? Yet being one of sports' happy helpers isn't so simple. Whether it's perfecting dancing moves, upstaging female counterparts with your sassy swings or donning the right uniform, you've gotta watch how cheerleaders get down.

Too young to be sexy? – A provocative dance plus elementary girls multiplied by viral video success equals controversy. When a young dance troupe suggestively sways, splits and turns to "Single Ladies," some parents are proud, but others are offended. "Uh oh oh" indeed.

Who wears short skirts? – A group of Ohio cheerleaders ran into trouble when they learned their cheerleading uniforms didn't adhere to the school dress code. Administrators thought the outfits were too skimpy.

You call those cheerleaders? – Who needs fit and rhythmically precise cheerleaders when you can have "manatees" instead? It's a new look for a cheery profession that gives the big guys a chance to show their stuff on the field. This all-male dance team catches eyes for more than just its moves.

    Too silly.
Preachers and other proper prudes have been complaining about cheer-
ghs since I was in high school 105 years ago.
Also, adults dressed me up in se-
xy outfits to sing and dance before I understood what they had in mind.
Love makes the world go 'round.

Dr Phil is a moron. How many states have removed his license for violations of practice? Texas took it away LONG ago...

I am not a fan of his show and like shows. Though he did not loose his license in Texas, he retired and did not renew it.

Dr. Phil is used as an example of what not to do in the mental health field. Usually instructors start their sentences with 'Unless you have amazing liability insurance...'.

If it wasn't for some idiot downloading this to U-tube, who would care ? Now that it's out there, the parents have to defend themselves and kids, against a bunch of old prudes who got nothing better to to do than go tisk-tisk ! And Dr, Phil's ramblings. Please everyone go get a life and shut up about already ! or you got nothing better to do than watch 8 an 9 yrs old at the local pool ?

That's the problem. There ARE guys out there that have nothing better to do than hang out watching these girls. Parenting is one of the hardest things you do in a lifetime. Letting little girls dress and avt like this is irresponsible.

Now that Sarah Palin is finally starting to go away we must focus on destroying any chance Bachmann has of getting to the White House.

Dr. Phil is pretty much a party-line psychologist.

If I weren't privately owned, I'd prefer to date Sarah rather than Michele.

There is something wrong with a parent that displays their 9 yr old as a piece of meat. Why would you want to tempt the perverts out there? These girls can show off their talents and not have to be way under dressed. What are you judging here anyway? It has nothing to do with being a prude it has all to do with morals.

Wearing a bikini is less fabric?? These girls are incredibly talented dancers... why take away from that to bash them or their parents for a costume??!!!

Who is judging who in this discussion? You describe the children as underdressed pieces of meat and talk about moral. I just see 5 kids having a lot of fun. But I'm afraid that makes me one of those tempted perv's you're talking about...

There isn't anything wrong with the song or the dance it's the costume's that make the whole thing seem wrong. I took dance for many years and the parents always had veto rights when it came time for the costumes. My mother would have never approved of such a costume nor would I let my child wear a costume like that at that age. I think the only issue here is poor judgement on the Parents part. A good rule of thumb, "Just because you can doesn't mean that you should."

There uniforms have been skimpy for years, where has everyone been?? The goal for cheerleaders is to support the teams not show off their assets. They should all take after the Steelers, they have no cheerleaders, THEY HAVE DEDICATED FANS!!
