Nike re-signs Michael Vick

Michael Vick, the star National Football League quarterback whose career was interrupted by a dogfighting conviction, has reached an endorsement agreement with athletic equipment maker Nike.

"We have re-signed Michael Vick as a Nike athlete," Megan Saalfeld, a Nike spokeswoman, said in an e-mail to CNN.

Vick, currently on the roster of the Philadelphia Eagles, served 20 months in federal prison after pleading guilty to bankrolling a dogfighting operation. He has since emerged as a spokesman against dogfighting.

"Michael acknowledges his past mistakes," Saalfeld said. "We do not condone those actions, but we support the positive changes he has made to better himself off the field. "

@Peri apparently: you are also ignorant. I was NOT defending child molesters you dolts, I was pointing out that we as a society have said that some crimes carry a punishment that goes beyond time served and for good reason. Get the mush out of your brains people.

Reading comprehension is a beautiful thing-you should try it sometime. You stated that Vick was the lowest form of a human being (or something like that) and those of us who retained all of our brain cells clearly view others, such as child predators, as being worthy of that designation. Get it now?

@Peri- You should do some research and talk to detectives. The police view people who fight dogs in the same light as rapists and child molesters and that people who fight dogs usually then elevate their behavior to the crimes you mentioned.

The biggest mistake Vick made was not eating the dogs. Such a waste of good meat!
Killing a dog is no different than killing a chicken, pig or cow. Eat the meat and no one can say a word.
No matter what you have been told, killing is killing, and dead is dead. Would you truely feel different if Vick had used an injection to kill the dogs? He should have eaten the dogs and proclaimed his love for dog meat. Hey, don't knock it until you try it. Dogs, cats, Not just pets. Underutilized food source.

Nike has just slapped us all in the face, saying "If your child wants to emulate a sadistic, torturer and murder of dogs, we've got your apparel." Absolutely the wrong message and plainly DISGUSTING!

Actually Nike just said "If you do great on the field, we support you, grow the h*ll up world".

Youre expecting Nike to provide role models for your children because of your inability to be one. If you spent the time raising your kids instead of letting the world do so you wouldnt have anything to worry about................Now would you?

Nori – if you have read some of the stuff he did and did not feel a bit sick to your stomach, then I guess you woulnd't understand what some of the rest of us feel. It goes way beyond doing stuff for money you shouldn't do, or cheating on a wife or girlfriend, to knowing and horrific cruelty. I for one do not think that is OK with most black people, either, by the way.

He served his time. He's made peace with it. And so have many animal rights activists and organizations.

But you're so much better than all of them, right?

@Ed, you say "amazing what the world will forgive because he throws a silly ball around" well, how about his is forgiven because he went to a federal prison for 2 years, took it like a man, came out and stayed clean, stayed out of trouble, re-established his life, and yes made it back to the top of the sport, but not before giving back to the community and taking time to show kids that what he did was wrong. Most anyone would have crumbled in his situation, resorted to drugs, and alcohol, but he did not.. that is why he is where he is today. People need to thank about the mistakes they have made. i am sure you have made mistakes as we all have.. does that mean we aren't allowed to live anymore.. if we make a mistake we have to just go sit in a corner in the fetal position and not try to right our wrongs and get life back. give me a break!

It's time to let it go and let him live his life. He really did not do much bad to the dogs. It was very overblown.

Overblown....you think that electroucting a dog is overblown, you think that slamming a dog on pavement multiple times till it dies is overblown, you think stabbing an animmal to death is overblown? You think that killing poor preforming dogs is overblown...I suggest you get some help..because no person in their right mind would think the things he did to these animals were overblown..you don't have to be an animal person to realize that these dogs have feelings and that they felt every ounce of the pain this monster inflicted on them.....

While I don't believe it was 'overblown' at all, I think Janet (crazy cat lady) and Gene (weak-minded balding dude with glasses) needs to chill out too. He did his time. Many animal rights activists and organizations have forgiven him. Everybody deserves a second chance.

We still choose to call names, but no one will address the question. Why isn't peta and other animal lovers in a uproar during hunting season or boycotting sponsers of popular hunting shows. And asking question as issue of morality and not law, since most of the people emotional responses or of a moral nature.
