Nike re-signs Michael Vick

Michael Vick, the star National Football League quarterback whose career was interrupted by a dogfighting conviction, has reached an endorsement agreement with athletic equipment maker Nike.

"We have re-signed Michael Vick as a Nike athlete," Megan Saalfeld, a Nike spokeswoman, said in an e-mail to CNN.

Vick, currently on the roster of the Philadelphia Eagles, served 20 months in federal prison after pleading guilty to bankrolling a dogfighting operation. He has since emerged as a spokesman against dogfighting.

"Michael acknowledges his past mistakes," Saalfeld said. "We do not condone those actions, but we support the positive changes he has made to better himself off the field. "

If you do something over and over for years, while hiding it to avoid being arrested.. its not a mistake it’s a lifestyle.

But hey .. he plays a sport well.. all forgiven.

Does Nike Really think I would believe anything he says? Like I believe Tiger was monogomous and Serena is nice? Nike can pick 'em. Good thing that my experience with their products have been lousy. I might believe someone who get pays millions for thier good word.

No one is perfect. Lets put all of your transgressions out there for the world to see and listen to what people have to say.

      @Rob

You don’t have to be perfect to see Vick is a grade A dbag. Do I have transgressions? Sure.. but none that would get me a prison sentence. Let alone anything that involved hanging and immolation of a live creator for entertainment

Dear Morons, there is a reason you work at McDonalds and living in your parents basement. You lack the intelligence to understand BUSINESS. Vick will sell merchandise which is all Nike cares about. They could give a d*mn if murdered a family if they knew he'd still sell merchandise. The end. You may now go back to watching Maury Povich and complaining about anything and everything.

I totally get where you are coming from. Just think how well The Hangerover did. And they cast a convicted r-ap!st. But as long as its good entertainment.. no harm no foul right?

P.S. Complaining about others complaining is hypocritical and well down right funny in your case.

They eat dog in china and raise them to be eaten. He 'BANKROLLED' it. He gave his friend money like most of us would do if we were rich. Just so happens that his friend started a dog breeding and fighting ring.

Then you do not know much about the case. He was present when some dogs were killed in a heinous way. He knew of the operation and you are the most naive person on the planet if you think he wasn't a participant for return on his investment.

The Humane Society of the United States and CEO Wayne Pacelle will have a hard time saying they are against dog fighting and animal abuse when they have made it possible for the most high profile dogfighter and animal brutalizer in the entire world to be glorified.

There is terrible shame in this, shame so deep it revolts and disgusts every decent, moral person involved in the dog world. They will have to remain silent while those who don't already have their number see the undisputable truth.

HSUS has betrayed everyone who donates to them believing they are doing so to protect and defend animals. There is no excuse and no defense for this. They have insulted the public's intelligence and the dignity of animals.

He tortured helpless dogs. I don't care if he "speaks out" against dogfighting, he's a worthless coward. And I'll never buy another Nike product again if this goes through.

No lie, no joke, and not funny. A dog ripped half my face off when I was a little boy. Ever able to feel a towel with your tongue THROUGH what USED to be your cheek? Didn't think so. All these dog owners who love their furry little creatures say "my dog would NEVER do that!" Which was exactly what the owner of the dog that caused me to undergo hours of plastic surgery said. See, I can actually atest, your dog WOULD do that in the right situation. It's an animal. As proven by Pavlov, it can be trained, but has no logic. Has no feelings, and no personality. It has a temperment and characteristics that might make you love it, but it's an ANIMAL!! Why the crazy people in this country can't figure that out is beyond me.

And humans have never hospitalized other humans. Maybe we should all just hate each other because of our bad experiences.

People hurt other people knowingly and consciously, does that mean you should consider everyone the same? After all the difference between humans and animals are logic and dignity. Your experience is unfortunate but isolated. That's true dogs are animals but don't tell me all dogs are the same.

Sadly, you made your own point. some dogs are born as agressors, but most are made this was by humans. Humans across the world brutalize other humans in mass more than animals ever have. I am sorry for the pain caused by the dog in your childhood, but for the most part, dogs can be amazing companions and pets. I have 2 that are wonderful.

It's been four years since the Michael Vick issue surfaced and you haters still don't seem to have a life, DO YOU? The man has paid in time and money for his crime(s and is moving forward with his life. Enough is enough!!! When will you put this issue to rest? If the shoe were on the other foot, I wonder what your responses would be then. Obviously, you haters are heartless and have never experienced mercy, forgiveness, and the love of Christ!

Was Vick thinking of Christ when he stood there and watched them set a dog on fire for fun? Or maybe when he was giving his buddy the cash to keep it going?

Wow you are not very smart. What does politics have to do with sports? Sports athletes are not held in the same regard. They represent their company/team only. They have a right to a private life like any other private citizen. Fine don't agree with what they do but they are private citizens like anyone else.

You’re right Rob, he does deserve a private life. I bet he wish it had remained private. That way he wouldn’t have been arrested and could still be enjoying the great past time of dog fighting/torture.
