Nike re-signs Michael Vick

Michael Vick, the star National Football League quarterback whose career was interrupted by a dogfighting conviction, has reached an endorsement agreement with athletic equipment maker Nike.

"We have re-signed Michael Vick as a Nike athlete," Megan Saalfeld, a Nike spokeswoman, said in an e-mail to CNN.

Vick, currently on the roster of the Philadelphia Eagles, served 20 months in federal prison after pleading guilty to bankrolling a dogfighting operation. He has since emerged as a spokesman against dogfighting.

"Michael acknowledges his past mistakes," Saalfeld said. "We do not condone those actions, but we support the positive changes he has made to better himself off the field. "

Canadian HDQ for Nike is . . . nike.canada@nike.com ... I'm asking them to forward my message of disgust to the U.S. HDQ. What a slap in the face to the real athletes that have shown integrity, generosity and kindness on and off the field. I wouldn't want to stand next to Michael Vick even in church.

@stoptheracism: most of the hate towards Vick is because he's an evil human being not because of his race, nice try though.

Please read the book The Lost Dogs Michael Vick's Dogs and Their Tale of Rescue and Redemption by Jim Gorant. The factual details in this book show that Vick is a sociopath. Vickk himself threw a puppy by his hind legs to another man who caught the puppy and slammed him to the ground repeatedly until he died. What about the dogs that were so terrified of humans they crawled on their bellies for months in fear something bad would happen to them. What about the dogs from his operation that had to pick up and taken outside so the dog could go to the bathroom. The dogs were so traumatized they could not move and were frozen in fear. Twenty months in jail is not enough time served for the crimes Vick committed. Vick was also ordered to pay 750,000 for the welfare, care and rehabilitation of the remaining dogs. He would have never given that money if he was not ordered. Those of you who say "forget it " or "get over it" are ignorant to the horrific torture these dogs endured. We should NEVER FORGET IT. Vick will harm again and when it is a person maybe those of you who think he deserves a second chance will see that a sociopath is NEVER cured.

Nike has just slapped us all in the face, saying "If your child wants to emulate a sadistic, torturer and murder of dogs, we've got your apparel." Absolutely the wrong message and plainly DISGUSTING!

I am not really a huge NIKE fan but I congratulate and applaud them for taking back Michael Vick. The man did his time... give it a rest. We have an interesting dynamic in our culture. We seem to praise animals more than human beings... but only the cute and cuddly animals. No one is upset over killing chickens or pigs or steer. We pass judgement on other cultures for eating dogs or cats or guinea pigs because we consider them cute. Cows are considered sacred in some cultures but we butcher them daily. Have you seen how they butcher animals for meat? Out of site out of mind, right? We want that fat cheeseburger but don't mess with fido, or spot, right? What Vick did was wrong but it's not like he sent innocent kids into a war zone to fight for oil or something. So unless you are a complete 100% vegetarian and do not use any leather products, you don't have much of an argument to stand on. And this isn't about God or religion but I think it has a lot to do with race which is more disgusting than dogfighting, quite honestly. If you don't want to by Nike products, fine. Nike won't miss your tiny shoe purchase. They give away more product than you'd buy anyway. Before you decide to judge, step 1. Take inventory of your own life and if you think you're still superior to Michael Vick, repeat step 1.

It is not that anyone is saying he or she is superior. Those of us against Michael Vick cannot forget he is a sociopath who has not remorse and is incapable of being a better person. Please read The Lost Dogs Michael Vick"s Dogs and Their Tale of Rescue and Redemption. Maybe you will not be so quick to defend MV.

uh, will, convicted child molesters serve their time too, say they are sorry, but I still would not one to be official representative of my company, or any company that is publicly traded that I may have in my portfolio. second chance, served his time, excuses used by pathetic humans that don't have the courage & guts to take a stand for what is decent and right. shame on Nike, NFL, Phil. Eagles, and all NFL players that did not step up to the plate and act like real men should....may be strong on the field, but weak in the morals department I guess! sure looks that way.. real men don't condone Nike's actions of resigning this evil man. you think that just because he served his time & said he was sorry that miraculously that evil is no longer in him. evil like that is deep rooted, and probably, like a child molester, can not be cured of that evil in him that he is hiding. I SAY DUMP NIKE STOCK!! wimpy men. geesh. notice I AM RAPTOR – not afraid – not afraid to take a stand.

      Seriously?
I don't give a flip if someone eats a dog but dogfighting is _not_ slaughter/butcher for food. I can't even believe you're equating the two! Dog fights can sometimes carry on for hours; even the "winning" dogs often die of dehydration, overheating, crush syndrome, heart attack, and so on. That's just the ones who make it to the fights and don't "scratch" (refuse to fight) during "rolls" (practice fights.) The ones who do, well...We all know how Mikey Darling liked to take care of his curs, don't we?

For whatever it's worth, yes, I eat meat, I hunt, I fish, I wear leather. There's quite a lot of difference between a kill that takes minutes (at worst) and ideally, only seconds and a strung-out spectacle of sadism for degenerates.

P.S.: Anyone who wants to make it a race issue is an idiot. Dogfighting was brought over from Ireland, Scotland, England and for a long time was a white "gentleman's" sport. White, black, whatever, you're a sick freak if you defend it or take part in it.

@MykTalking about your response to Barb by the way. @Alexander: don't worry, one day when you're older you'll come to understand that it is wrong to torture animals unless you grow up to be like some of the people posting on here that is.

  8. The guy purposly slammed a dog to the ground

Repeatedly to kill it and many of you people think he's served his time? Really? He's served enough time for having electrocuted a dog? Really? He had dogs hung or drowned and he's served enough already? Really? The guy should still be behind bars. Anyone who wasn't a celebrity of some sort probably still would be but not him because he's a pro-football player.

MrBaub: about the only thing you managed to get right was the fact that it is about race as in if Vick weren't black and a good athlete he'd still be banned. BTW I took inventory of my own life and yep as I suspected I didn't find any animal abuse, or worse, so I'll continue to judge the POS thank you very much.

This is an absolute first, Right wing Rush Limbaugh Republicans agreeing with Left wing NAACP Democrats that people hating on Vick are racists absolutely AMAZING. Too bad you all can't agree on more important stuff huh, too bad it takes a POS for you all to come together, time for you all to join the rest of the world community.

@Dorothy M. Ballew: I'm assuming you were responding to my post so I'll say thank you even if you weren't. People that would intentionally hurt a defenseless animal wouldn't think twice about hurting a human being and that's what a lot of these hero worshipers miss, BTW to all you Christians defending him due partly to his ability to play football I'll just warn you that idol worship is wrong also. Just thought I'd remind you all of that.
