Nike re-signs Michael Vick

Michael Vick, the star National Football League quarterback whose career was interrupted by a dogfighting conviction, has reached an endorsement agreement with athletic equipment maker Nike.

"We have re-signed Michael Vick as a Nike athlete," Megan Saalfeld, a Nike spokeswoman, said in an e-mail to CNN.

Vick, currently on the roster of the Philadelphia Eagles, served 20 months in federal prison after pleading guilty to bankrolling a dogfighting operation. He has since emerged as a spokesman against dogfighting.

"Michael acknowledges his past mistakes," Saalfeld said. "We do not condone those actions, but we support the positive changes he has made to better himself off the field. "

real men wouldn't be sticking up for this man being Nike's official representative....so he served his time, so do child molesters but that does not mean they are fit to officially represent a publicly traded company. DUMP NIKE STOCK
and then have a burn Nike Shoes Party!

What a shame that NIKE feels Michael Vick is the be all end all for endorsing their products. Convicted of multiple counts of Animal Cruelty? Wow..Way to go NIKE...way to hold Mr. Vick on a pedestal as a role model for children.

Time to start buying New Balance. I will not be alone in this either. Just about every ethical, responsible dog person will be doing the same.

    Buh Bye Nike....Hello New Balance

love the posters that keep saying to everyone to get over it and just move on.....passive aggressive condescending tone. I will say it again: would you want a convicted child molester officially representing the NFL or Nike, because it is the same thing, no different. In fact Vick's crimes are so horrendous that most would argue that the evil in him is not gone, just hidden long enough to make money.

to all the posters that are playing the glass house card.....newsflash: the majority of humans on this planet are NOT evil like Vick, and dollars to donuts most posters here have no sin in their pasts that can even come close to the sins and pure evil that vick perpetuated and apparently enjoyed the evil things he was doing. are you people so gullible or just so into football, or being contrary, that you don't understand the evil did not just magically go away......get real. love the contrarians on the board here posting in favor of vick and acting so elitist and superior to posters who find the whole thing disgusting and worthy of not only discussing – it IS today's news!! – but worthy of boycotting Nike and spreading the word, boycott Nike, and all NFL sponsors for that matter. May the Eagles have a losing season.....karma karma

What's the difference between Michael Vick and Charles Manson, practically nothing they both did it for entertainment and sport and yet one is in prison forever and the other was out in less than TWO years and back making millions with the same stupid adoring fans following him, only in America. BTW anyone else who did what he did would've gotten 15 to 20 easily and they'd still be in prison so no he did not serve his time, not even close.

Know what would be really funny? If some defensive player flattens Vick into a pancake and ends his pathetic comeback which never should've been allowed to happen in the first place. Pete Rose and the Chicago Black Sox were banned for life for far less and the Chicago Black Sox were found innocent.

@Raptor Mom: thank you. I tried to make a couple of statements also about molesters serving their time too and we still don't allow them, as a society, to do certain things and I got totally eviscerated for it. Glad someone else sees the point that just because someone has served their time it doesn't mean that things should go back as normal for them when they get out, most convicted felons have a hard time even finding work when they get out many of whom didn't commit crimes as terrible as Vick's. What's up with all this sinful christian idol worship of Vick anyways.

I prefer Rockports myself, much more comfortable and a lot higher quality. Nike is just the same old Chinese forced labor cr ap that nearly every other company puts out BTW.

Well I suppose technically the commandment says thou shalt have no god before me so I guess it is alright for you good Christians to worship Vick after all, lucky you. Unfortunately it also means that the rest of us can worship other things also besides your god as long as we worship him first. Hey, don't blame me I didn't make the rules.

Most christians are so hypocritical, you all get on here and say how everyone should forgive Vick because he did his time(which wasn't nearly enough btw) and all because you idolize his football skills. But on other posts you'll make some horrible small minded remark about to an atheist or some one of another religion, or gays, and there is none of that forgiveness in your own heart, thou hypocrite burn in hell.

There isn't any real hell btw, that comes from Greek mythology, the jews never had a concept of a hell until they were subjugated by the Romans who stole many of the ancient Greek myths and renamed them. FYI

  13. Anything but Nike

Why would anyone want to buy Nike after this alliance with Vick? There are many brands that are not endorsed by people that fed their pets to dogs cruelly trained to kill.

I am tired of the "no one is perfect comments" You don't have to be perfect or nowhere near perfect to know that killing and torturing is wrong.
