Gotta Watch: Judging Casey Anthony case

It's the capital murder case that's held our attention this summer. But has the prosecution proved beyond a reasonable doubt that Casey Anthony intentionally murdered her daughter? The jury is beginning their deliberations today, and now it's your chance to weigh in. You've gotta watch the most pivotal moments from the defense and prosecution and judge for yourself whether Casey Anthony is guilty or innocent.

Prosecuting Casey Anthony – The state of Florida contends Casey Anthony cared more about partying and having a fun life than being a mother. It's her motive for murder, according to prosecutors. They paint her as a liar trying to live the good life at the expense of her daughter.

Defending Casey Anthony – The defense brought molestation allegations against Casey Anthony's father and brother during the trial. It pointed to George Anthony as the real culprit behind the toddler's death and cover-up. Most importantly, Casey Anthony's defense team relied upon the fact that Caylee Anthony's cause of death is undetermined. It believes that's the real reason there's not enough evidence to convict the Florida mother of murder.

To begin with, there was a lie, an EXTREMELY long time has passed b4 calling authorities, and for what? a cover-up? to what? NONSENSE. This just has been a waste of taxpayer's money when everyone knows that with the 1st lie there had to have been a problem. GUILTY to me just for that. Waiting a long time to call 911... GUILTY to me just for that. Grandparents were just too stupid to figure out their daughter...GUILTY to me just for that. Forget about physical evidence... gr'parents in for stupidity and Casey in for NOT BEING A MOTHER. She should rot, period. I respect everyone's opinion, I'm just saying :/ I guess we'll have to wait 'n see what happens. Whatever the outcome, I hope li'l Caylee gets justice. MAY SHE STAY IN PEACE

I am so glad this has gone to the juy and will soon be over. So tired of the Casey Anthoney second, minute, hour, special and all day coverage I could scream. Worse than the OJ trial or the Baby Jessica in the well coverage. Our Country is on the brink of fancial disaster and the news media should be providing info on the economey and what the government is doing, not tablid drible.

In Scott Peterson case, there was no murder weapon or cause of death either and his malicious and cold demeanor got him on death row, hope its the same here. Baby killers don't deserve to breathe, especially if its your baby!!!

The way I see it, Casey’s daughter accidentally drowned in the family pool, and a family member convinced her that if she went to the authorities, they would accuse her of murdering her own child. (Ironically, of course, that’s how it turned out.)

Casey then spent the next month or so trying to figure out how to come forward to the authorities, or perhaps how to cover up for fear that, again, she would be accused of murdering her own child. The clubbing and partying she did has no bearing on the case-she was trying to feign normalcy while inside herself she was trying to figure out how to get out of the situation without going to jail.

The duct tape found on the child’s mouth may indicate that it was decided by SOMEONE, that it would be best to make the child’s death look like she was murdered by someone else in order to prevent the authorities from falsely accusing Casey of murdering her child. In a reportedly dysfunctional family like that, it’s not a stretch to believe that’s what therir thinking was.

Bottom line: The child’s death was an accident. If Casey should be convicted of anything, it would be obstruction of justice for failing to come forward with the truth of what happened. Also, to the extent she could have prevented the drowning, she should be convicted for a crime such as negligence or endangering the welfare of a minor. A first degree murder conviction, in my opinion, would mean that Florida's legal due process system has indeed gone down a rabbit hole.

If this were the case, why didn't the prosecution explain, I mean prove HOW the body ended up where it was found, or what happened to the body after the child died accidentally?

Funny how the "drowning" theory didn't materialize until after both a detective and Casey's mother made those references. Probably took her an hour to concoct the full story, complete with intricate details and all.

This is almost exactly what I think too. Although I think Caylee may have been in the pool for an extended amount of time. That is why someone George/ Casey decided a coverup was needed...

Mir, I don't think Caylee died in the pool, this is how I think it happened. Casey had been giving Caylee Chloroform for a couple of months with no problems, then on June 16th she gave her some to sleep while she partied, but Caylee woke up and Casey had to give her more, then to make sure if Caylee woke up again, she put duct tape over her mouth, but since she was doing in the dark, she covered her mouth and nose as well. Then next morning when she went to check on Caylee, Caylee was dead and that is when she put her in the garbage bags with all of her belongings. When the smell got so bad in Casey's car she dumped her in an area she knew was under water most of the time, so she thought that they would never find her. I think she thought that since the body was no longer in the car that the smell would go away, but it didn't and that is when she dump[ed the car.

you're putting the cart before the horse... The baby was found only on accident, by a random meter maid. In your theory, the baby having tape on the mouth was to throw off authorities, but its a stretch to believe the baby would EVER be found.

You can hear how distraught the grandmother is, when she smells death in the car. She wanted to find out why. She suspected something had happened to the baby.

Caylee didn't die in the pool, though I suspect that Casey might have set her dead body on the ground next to it and put the ladder up, thinking she was going to FAKE a drowning, then realized she'd waited too long–the body was too decomposed even after a day or two, in that heat. So she took the body to the woods instead.

Well, Sherlock, I have to disagree and look at this objectively. Obviously, the defense has now got many people believing their ludricous defense that this was an accident. Here are the facts thus far:
      1. CA's child goes missing and CA was the last person Caylee was with, as per the testimoney of the parents.
      2. CA does NOTHING to report her child missing, instead making up "convenient" lies as she went along to anybody who asked, including law enforcement.
      3. The defense, on the opening day of the trial, springs this BS defense that CA was abused as a child and that the death was an acidental drowning in the family pool. You can't tell me that an ex-cop wouldn't know the only legally sane option would be to immediatly report the accident to avoid charges of obstruction of justice and/or foul play. Therefore, to believe this is what happened makes no sense.
      4. The old adage applies here; actions speak louder than words, and it's quite obvious that CA's actions are those of a colder-than-ice, selfish, self-centered, psychopath. All one needs to do is look closely at her actions and expressions in those party pictures, as well as her reaction in the courtroom, and you have your answer.
      5. Last but not least, there is no credible evidence to ever suggest the infant's death was accidental. While the burden of proof indeed lies with the prosecutor, there is no other plausible explanation from the defence that can be backed up by any credible evidence, not to mention the father testifying to the contrary.

Will Nancy Grace go on TV and start to cry tonight? Will she be so wrapped up that she wishes she would have been Jane Mitchell and been able to run across the parking lot to stick a microphone in Chaney & Baez faces? What a disgrace our media has become. I hope it's not guilty so this media can look like fools. They had Casey found guilty long before this case ever started.

John, did you bother to read all of the depositions, I did. Casey is guilty, but like I said, they will not get a first degree conviction. All of the media are only reporting what they have been given by the defense and the prosecution, so don't blame them.

II feel Casey is guilty of lying to the Police, hampering an investigation, child abuse, and manslaughter. I don't that the state will get a first degree conviction, but they will get a conviction. To me the evidence was overwhelming (481 pieces of evidence compared to the 74 that the defense presented). What struck me odd was how her attorneys had to remind her to look like she was crying. When they showed Caylee skull the 1st time and the jury was not there, she did not shed a tear, but when they were showed in front of the jury, she pretended to be sobbing.. Watching the demeanor of the defendant will tell you a lot to.

I also do not feel that her dad was involved at all and I don't think he molested her. More and more criminals are using that defense today and personally I don't buy it. Many have been abused and have never broken any laws, so I just see that as an excuse for their behavior.

This case reminded me of the Diane Downs case here in Oregon. The mother was to get rid of her kids because her boyfriend did not want to be a father, Casey wanted the life of a normal 22 year old who is not tied down with a child.

Thank-you for your voice of reason in a sea of insanity! YES, more and more criminals are using the "Abused" defence and it needs to be discounted for being the BS excuse it has become. If this were even true, she had many counselling options at her disposal, just like the other guilty criminals who use this type of defence. Although, there ARE indeed cases where the accused has in fact been horribly abused, including but not limited to, exposure to hard-core drugs and Fetal Alcohol Syndrome, in which case the Abused as a child defence can apply. In the case of CA, all I can say is those poor parents.

The prosecution didn't have much to do to prove 4 of the 7 counts except to play the tapes – so they did prove that she is a liar. The prosecution put on the best case that they could based on the fact that Casey dumped Caylee in the woods and her body had decomposed for 6 months – there was nothing left for them to do much of gathering physical evidence.

While I think it was a mother trying to be as humane as possible by putting her out and then suffocating her, it does show intent to get rid of the child, so guilty.
