Gotta Watch: Judging Casey Anthony case

It's the capital murder case that's held our attention this summer. But has the prosecution proved beyond a reasonable doubt that Casey Anthony intentionally murdered her daughter? The jury is beginning their deliberations today, and now it's your chance to weigh in. You've gotta watch the most pivotal moments from the defense and prosecution and judge for yourself whether Casey Anthony is guilty or innocent.

Prosecuting Casey Anthony – The state of Florida contends Casey Anthony cared more about partying and having a fun life than being a mother. It's her motive for murder, according to prosecutors. They paint her as a liar trying to live the good life at the expense of her daughter.

Defending Casey Anthony – The defense brought molestation allegations against Casey Anthony's father and brother during the trial. It pointed to George Anthony as the real culprit behind the toddler's death and cover-up. Most importantly, Casey Anthony's defense team relied upon the fact that Caylee Anthony's cause of death is undetermined. It believes that's the real reason there's not enough evidence to convict the Florida mother of murder.

Defendants are not required to tell their attorneys the truth. Having recently represented someone in a federal case albeit not criminal, those of us representing the defendant discovered that the defendant withheld critical information and our client was actually the bad guy. It happens all the time. While a judge may, I repeat may, have the authority to go after those not telling the truth, it rarely happens.

Then again, our team has integrity and we all resigned in the end. There are far too many attorneys who don't care whether they're told the truth or not. They're simply after the billable hours and, in cases like Casey Anthony's, fame and ego trips. These are the attorneys who give the legal profession a bad name. It is defense counsel's job to defend/protect the client and seek the best outcome for the client, not create smoke and mirrors hoping to confuse those on the jury who are naive.

The practice of law was not intended to be a venue for fantastic stories, false allegations, and make believe. Unfortunately, our legal system has lost sight of the basic rules of law and courtrooms are becoming stages for fiction writers and soap operas.

How would you even know when someone is telling you the truth? If she did it and wants to get away with murder, of course she's going to lie. You are supposed to tell your attorney the facts of what happened so he/she can defend that position on your behalf, but can she say to her attorney that she murdered her daughter and then the attorney is supposed to cover up for her? No. Defense usually attorneys don't ask the defendant if they did it. They don't want to know because it makes their job harder. They only want to know what can be proven. They are obligated, though, to believe their clients against all possible doubt, even if it isn't reasonable. But if they truly know the client is guilty, they can't lie to the Court.

Will the jury pull an OJ outcome? Maybe they will decide the case on race and come back today with a NOT GUITLY outcome.

She is guilty. A mother/parent does not go out and party while their child is missing. Mount that with all the lies told, then evidence. She is guilty...

I totally agree-guilty. A true mother would be going out of her mind with worry if her child was missing.

What if she was in denial, in a state of mind that pretended her child was okay?

@Paul....People don't suffer temporary bouts of "partymania". These are all defense tactics. This is why it's called beyond "reasonable" doubt, not beyond any doubt. You need to THINK and be reasonable. There's no way anyone who is "reasonable" would let a child go missing for 30 days or more and do nothing. And yet, she did. You don't need to have a video of her committing the crime. If we did, no one would ever be convicted. There are plenty of reasons to believe beyond a reasonable doubt that she committed the ultimate crime and now needs to pay with the ultimate punishment.

Casey Anthony is guilty of aggravated manslaughter. Should get 15 years. The girl drowned by accident and George and Casey covered it up. State's evidence does not prove premeditation nor murder. Sorry. God bless this little girl.

Like a homicide detective wouldn't know better than to throw her body 19 feet from the road and what is the reason for the duct tape then? In case someone goe into the woods to pee and stumbles over her skull, so it can make the case more interesting for the lawyers? It's an absurdity to say there was no proof of homicide. If you don't call the duct tape proof what was it around her face over her mouth for? To keep her safe in the pool? Baez story wouldn't fool a half wit and I think this jury will come back with a guilty charge on at least manslaughter if not felony murder. George suspected Caylee was dead and Casey knew, but he himself did NOT know what happened and was obviously desperately trying to find that out.

If the charge was being a bad parent, or of being whack, there's not much question. But there was never any physical evidence presented to prove the child was murdered, or that she was the person who murdered her. You can't convict her of murder on that. Unless, I suppose, you're in a place like Texas or Florida, where they loudly execute first and quietly exonerate later. I'd say she's screwed.

A "bad parent?" really? made some unfortunate choices, was inappropriate maybe?

A BAD parent misses their kids school band concert or fails to make their support payment. I think we have to accuse Casey of being something a little bit more than whack. Like, if you duct tape your kid's head to stop her breathing after googling how to kill people and how to make chloroform and telling people she was gonna be on a 'long vacation" and you'd be free to party and get busy with your booty calls to whatever guy you are with this week, then once she is dead you go rent videos with her stuffed in a trash sack in the trunk then throw her in a swamp for animlas to pull apart as she decomposes, and go out dancing and get a bella vita tattoo and lie to your parents about where she is, and then when on trial try to throw THEM under the bus, that makes you a psychopath and pathological liar. Not just a bad parent,.

The state did not prove its case beyond a reasonable doubt. just my opinion.

@Jimmy--You do realize what "reasonable doubt" means, right?! It doesn't mean beyond any doubt. We have no video of the crime, otherwise no one would ever go to jail, but a "reasonable" person can still infer from the evidence that she committed the crime. This is why the legal system is such a mess. The OJ case is the classic example, but this Casey case will also be remembered for what a farce it was. People who end up on a jury are usually not well versed about legal terms and react solely on emotions. The legal system will fail once again, if Casey Anthony is found not guilty.

"IF THE GLOVE DONT FIT, YOU MUST ACQUIT!". There was "NO" glove, so therefore Casey Anthony is NOT GUILTY.

No glove, but the laundry bag fit, so did the blanket and the t shirt that had never been at the Anthony house, Casey'd car trunk fit and the photos of her and the jail house tapes fit like a glove. No one else was a psycho was happy at Caylee's death and no one else had access to all that stuff including the hang out spot where she buried her old pets. They nailed Casey on this and she will be in jail for at least 30 years if not the DP – remember, Perry won the case against the Black Widow and tried her – the first woman to be put to death in Florida – when he was a prosecutor. only 7 jurors have to vote for the DP and he will put Casey Anthony on death row. Where the OJ anaology is apt is that this black man judge doesn't believe the DP is only for black men. He will and has sentenced a white woman to death if the jury finds her guilty of capital murder. She better hope someone on that jury holds out to spare her miserable life with more compassion than what she showed to her two year old.

Guilty. Her behavior is the most damning thing against her. No parent, grandparent, or guardian of a child ,who's child simply drowned, could fathom hiding the body. You would do anything to revive your child. To be afraid of being accused means you have something to hide already. She's dug herself a deep hole.

I must admit, I was introduced to the entire story a bit late, but it is still gruesome nonetheless. I find it pathetic that the defense is going to try and create a molestation story to make Casey somehow less of an evil woman. She is a selfish woman and if you truly need to judge whether a person has committed a crime. Look at their past actions. Everything she has said and done up to this point is a lie, just like she is.

There is an equal amount...at least...of evidence in this case as there was in the Scott Peterson case, and he's sitting on death row. Short of a videotape showing the murder, I don't know how much else you need.

I can't believe it's been almost 3 years since this news first broke. I have been following it from Day 1. I wanted to believe at some point Casey would break down (ala Susan Smith) and just come clean. I was hoping that some ounce of goodness would show its self–and that a Mother could not sit with such a burden of guilt. But I guess it truly does show she is, in fact a sociopath or psychopath who is truly evil to the core. It's obvious that she is the root of her daughter Caylee's demise–no question about it. Only she knows what truly happened. The lingering question is if it was premeditated or accidental? I guess will never know. Any thoughts people?
