Gotta Watch: Judging Casey Anthony case

It's the capital murder case that's held our attention this summer. But has the prosecution proved beyond a reasonable doubt that Casey Anthony intentionally murdered her daughter? The jury is beginning their deliberations today, and now it's your chance to weigh in. You've gotta watch the most pivotal moments from the defense and prosecution and judge for yourself whether Casey Anthony is guilty or innocent.

Prosecuting Casey Anthony – The state of Florida contends Casey Anthony cared more about partying and having a fun life than being a mother. It's her motive for murder, according to prosecutors. They paint her as a liar trying to live the good life at the expense of her daughter.

Defending Casey Anthony – The defense brought molestation allegations against Casey Anthony's father and brother during the trial. It pointed to George Anthony as the real culprit behind the toddler's death and cover-up. Most importantly, Casey Anthony's defense team relied upon the fact that Caylee Anthony's cause of death is undetermined. It believes that's the real reason there's not enough evidence to convict the Florida mother of murder.

Guilty. The defense has been reeling for a week now; they know she's screwed. Great closings by the prosecution too.

They'll be one moron on the jury who believes here. Unfortunately, they don't do IQ tests for juries.

I don't think the evidence itself proves her guilty, manslaughter seems to even be a stretch. Her actions, however, without a doubt absolutely prove her guilt. Did anyone ever get an answer to where Caylee was when she was supposedly with Zanny? Also, I don't think the death penalty is appropriate unless she can be overdosed, taped up, and put in a garbage bag in the local dump site. I think it would be much more apropriate for her to spend the rest of her life in prison with a bunch of other mothers who can't wait to get home to their children.

However Celeste, I believe there is enough reasonable evidence to prove her guilty. Remember it's not absolute certaintiy, just without reasonable doubt.

But the evidence by the media proves that she is guilty. Though the Strauss Khan (IMF) case was a blow for the media, they hope to win this case

Casey is guilty all the way. Not only did she kill her beautiful daughter she has desrtoyed the lives of her parents and brother and extended family members. No one wins in this except Casey .Her total lack of disregard of family and well being of her child have taken a toll on them all. I see no remose on her part. She is a monster.I pray her family will be able to heal enough to enjoy the rest of their lives and possibly be blessed with another grandchild with Lee and his future wife.
Casey's dream team did her no favors but you can not make a silk purse out of a pigs ear. May God have mercy on her. Most people find God in times like this but she is still dancing with the devil. Prayers go out to her family

Very well said Pamela. She in fact brought all of us into this with her. She knew before she commited this crime there was the death penalty in Florida. She obviously thought she was sooooo clever she could out smart this and get away with it. She was wrong and her death penalty will be soley her own fault and not the jurors.

I am from Nigeria, Africa. And in some villages many children cannot be cared for, so the fathers set them under a bush or rock at the town borders. I suggest that Americans do this with their children, just in garbage cans, on the steps of Churches, and in swamps. While you call it "murder," we accept our animality and pragmatically approach the issue of mother-child killings.

      Hey Abi,
How many people are from other countries are flocking to live in Nigeria. You are in this country for reason as well. There is no other country like the United States of America. It is because of our laws that try to protect the innocent. In a civilized country that strives for equallity, you can not allow ANYONE to kill a child. Even theirown mother.

      Hey Abi,

How many people from other countries are flocking to Nigeria? You are here as well I assume in the United States for a reason. Opportunity? Equality? There is no other country like the United States of America. The laws that try to protect the innocent is the reason why we have a difficult time keeping people out. A country is not civilized if it fails to protect the innocent. Even if the perpetrator is their own mother.

    • And now, for something completely different

This has got to be a joke. If not, allow me to be the first to say your Nigerian culture is extremely insane, let alone irrelevant in this case. Caylee wasn't a child that couldn't be "taken care of", as you outrageously put it. She was a healthy child, with supportive grandparents who I'm sure would have taken care of her if Casey would have asked them to...

That's a little far fetched...you might as well just shot your child, at least then they wouldn't have to suffer from weather conditions, lack of food, and proper care!!! It was very apparent Casey could take care of her child if she wished to, however, she didn't want the responsiblity. But she had family whom loved her daughter and would've been glad to have her! We have had incidents of people throwing their children away in America and when caught, it is murder! If someone doesn't want their child, and you don't have family to take them, there is adoption. There are so many people around America, and the world whom cannot have children of their own and would love to provide one to any child. I just don't get people...how can you look at your baby that you carried inside of you and just let them die?! and at your own hands!

reading through the replies, it is easy to see that people are ignorant of the law. She is 100% guilty of 1st degree murder. However, the state did not prove pre-meditation.

how did they not prove pre-meditation? the chloroform? the duct tape? was that an accident? OOOPS!! i didn't really MEAN to put duct tape over my child's mouth and nose..that was an ACCIDENT.

We are not that ignorant as you think. Every day we watch and listen to the media consultant (lawyers or liars) and experts on this kind of cases. If they fail we fail, if they win we win. OK brother mind your words.

Surely the jurors can see there is no reasonable doubt whatsoever, in spite of defense theatrics?

By the way, did you know…

There is one person in the courtroom who was denied application for nearly a decade by the Florida Board of Bar Examiners because, among other things, the applicant showed “a total lack of respect for the rights of others and a total lack of respect for the legal system, which is absolutely inconsistent with the character and fitness qualities required of those seeking to be afforded the highest position of trust and confidence recognized by our system of law.”

    Guess who?

although there is not enough evidence pointing to casey, I believe that she should be convicted for not protecting her child from whomever that she believes murdered her.

We do not have hard evidence that Casey killed her child and for that reason she should not get
the death penalty. Casey should at least get life with chance at later appeals, that is more of a chance than Caylee had

no, she shouldn't get the death penalty because she doesn't deserve that easy out. she should have to spend every day of the rest of her miserable, selfish, narcissistic life in prison, looking at pictures of her daughters skull. she does not deserve any kind of appeal process and waste the taxpayer's dollars any more than she already has.

Count One, First Degree Murder: If Casey Anthony is convicted of first degree murder, regardless of whether it is on a theory of Pre-meditated Murder or Felony Murder she will receive at a minimum a life sentence. A life sentence in Florida is a true life sentence, which means there is no parole or early release. A defendant convicted of first degree murder only leaves prison after his or her death. The only alternative to a life sentence is death by execution.
Lesser Included of Count One, Second Degree Murder: (depraved mind murder, not premeditated) The maximum penalty for Second Degree Murder is a life sentence. The minimum sentence is based on the Criminal Punishment Code. The estimated minimum sentence for this charge and other charges which might result in conviction along with this count would be 24 years, 6 months.

Count Two, Aggravated Child Abuse: The maximum penalty for aggravated child is 15 years in prison. The estimated minimum sentence for this charge and other charges which might result in conviction along with this count would be 12 years, 1 month.

Count Three, Aggravated Manslaughter of a Child: If Casey Anthony is convicted of causing the death of Caylee by culpable negligence the maximum sentence is 30 years in prison. The estimated minimum sentence for this charge and other charges which might result in conviction along with this count would be 16 years and 6 months.

Counts Four Through Seven, Giving False Information to a Law Enforcement Officer in Reference to a Missing Person: The charge in these four counts carries a maximum of one year in county jail for each count. As a result if convicted of all four of these counts, Casey Anthony could receive a sentence of four years if the sentence for each count is run consecutively.

i think she is guilty of covering up for accidental drowning. seems like caylee was a responsibility she didn't really want all the time. we all my decisions that we think are impossible to rectify. hers was way more serious. i think her dad got involved after the fact and should be guilty of covering up up for daughter. she doesn't need death penalty she needs help and guidance. her family needs some also. i think she will get a pass on the death penalty. she needs out of media spotlight and fix herself.

      Are you serious?
Wow.. Common sense tells a totally different story.. Look at the facts , not this young girl who looks pathetic now cause her own life is on the line.. Just take the facts and weigh them out.. Without looking at this girl..
If you had to just judge the facts, could you in any way, actually say it was a drowning?
Better to go up for first degree murder, than tell the truth 3 years ago?? come on... she has had three years to understand the situation and tell this story.. She just sat in jail? And let this hang over her until now?
crazy to believe the drowning story..
