Gotta Watch: Judging Casey Anthony case

It's the capital murder case that's held our attention this summer. But has the prosecution proved beyond a reasonable doubt that Casey Anthony intentionally murdered her daughter? The jury is beginning their deliberations today, and now it's your chance to weigh in. You've gotta watch the most pivotal moments from the defense and prosecution and judge for yourself whether Casey Anthony is guilty or innocent.

Prosecuting Casey Anthony – The state of Florida contends Casey Anthony cared more about partying and having a fun life than being a mother. It's her motive for murder, according to prosecutors. They paint her as a liar trying to live the good life at the expense of her daughter.

Defending Casey Anthony – The defense brought molestation allegations against Casey Anthony's father and brother during the trial. It pointed to George Anthony as the real culprit behind the toddler's death and cover-up. Most importantly, Casey Anthony's defense team relied upon the fact that Caylee Anthony's cause of death is undetermined. It believes that's the real reason there's not enough evidence to convict the Florida mother of murder.

I think Casey was jealous of all the attention that Caylee was getting rather than her. Agreed she has serious issues...I don't think for a minute that the parents are involved except to save their daughter. That is why Cindy took the pill for chloroform searches which were proven false later on and that is why George moved the car....Roy Kronk is totally innocent....If Roy Kronk is implicated then nobody will participate in searches in the future.....The final story was Caseys dream excuse and shame on her to drag her parents through the mud. Were she innocent she would never have to drag or deflect the bad attention away.

You know there is a reason that the prosecutors get to talk last, because they have the burden of proof beyond any and all reasonable doubt. Here's the problem with that, if someone calls you a rapist in the rebuttal, when you're only accused of murder, your only remedy at that point is to object, the judge will likely sustain the objection, but the jury heard the prosecutor call you a rapist none the less. That's why we all know in all probability Casey Anthony murdered her daughter, but in order for us to remain a fair and just system of justice in this country, we must always maintain that the prosecutor must prove beyond all reasonable doubt, that defendants are guilty of a crime. In essence, did they prove 1st degree murder in this case? So this case ultimately comes down to three things, and nothing else matters. #1. The chloroform searches on the internet. #2. The chloroform found in the trunk. #3. Did they prove beyond a reasonable doubt that Casey Anthony used it? I don't think anyone other than Casey did the searches. Cindy didn't have a Myspace page. So I would have to say the case for first degree murder has been proven, however, in this case I think a life sentence with no chance of parole is more appropriate than death.

Jeff, there's a bit more to it. There's 4 scenarios when someone turns up dead. #1 they died of natural causes or #2 they accidentally die by no direct action of another person, such as falling in a swimming pool. These first two scenarios 100% of the time 911 is called. Now whenever you find a body dumped in the woods its only one of these last two scenarios #3 they were murdered or #4 they died accidentally by direct action of another person and they are trying to cover up the death. Now since Caylee was found in the woods with duct tape over nose/mouth this indicates intentional murder or accidental death such as if Casey put duct tape or used chloroform or both to quiet Caylee but applied too much and Caylee died as a result. You not only have a body with duct tape applied plus you have chloroform searches, chloroform in the trunk, Casey lying and partying it up, living the good life, and certainly by no appearances seems one bit upset. In fact, when she's thrown in jail everything is all about her, she only wants to talk to her boyfriend and isn't concerned in helping find Caylee, whom at this point everyone still believes she's just missing. So given all these factors one could conclude beyond a reasonable doubt that this was premeditated murder. There are no other persons with the opportunity or motive other than Casey.

Totally AGREE with what you, Jeff......well said. Personally, for me, life in prison without the possibility of parole, would be WORSE than the death penalty.

The state did NOT meet the burden of proof, it was speculative at best. In fact the only person who looks guilty is George and Cindy Anthony. JDLR ..means Just Don't Look Right to police. The evidence the state offered off only indicated once person....George Anthony. While people compare this trial to the OJ trial, I compare George Anthony as another Susan Smith. There is way to much in this trial that makes little sense and was overlooked. I saw political grandstanding and way to much media bias before and during the trial. To convict someone in a death penalty case based on the speculative evidence is a slap in the face of justice, not to mention a violation of due process to Casey Anthony's right from the very beginning. I hope this jury has some common sense and slaps the state and the media right back in their place for conducting witch hunts. I call this the " magic theory" George and Cindy magically can provide all the evidence and even the body...w/o knowing anything beforehand.

Not so fast. Here's some common sense for you to mull over: It is very telling that one of the main characters in this story was not interested in or concerned about searching for Caylee from July 15 – Dec 11, 2008. Have you figured it out yet? Because she and only she knew that Caylee was already dead. Yes, that's right: Casey Anthony, and that one fact alone is enough for the jury to find her guilty. She didn't report her missing for the same reason: because she already knew Caylee was dead. Shall I continue?

@TINA Mother of 7; What have you been smoking? Its easy for you to say since it wasn't your child. Were you drinking when the evidence was introduced? Shovel, Hair Fibers etc. As a mother, which is what you claime to be, would you be partying, getting tats, sleeping with 4 and 5 guys while your child is missing. Would you do what Casey did l;ike wait 31 days and report them missing? How stupid are you?

Whenever Casey cried in court its all about her. Seeing Caylee's remains she cried because its a stark reminder as to why she's in the situation she's in and regrets doing it for that reason, no tears for Caylee really.

I'm not sure they proved it but I am sure that a 911 call when it happened would have saved alot of taxpayers dollars if it was an accident. The sad thing is a little girl lost her life! Many children die every year at the hands of their parents and as you read these cases it seems like its not that hard for parents to get away with it.

We can suspect she's guilty all we want, and she probably caused Caylee's death, but the state didn't prove it. She also didn't get a fair trial. Why should George be allowed to give so many self-serving, speeches on the witness stand that have nothing to do with the questions asked? As an ex- cop who received training in testifying, he knew exactly what he was doing- trying to torpedo his daughter's defense. So many examples of how the court didn't give her a fair trial. Can't wait for the retrial.

The state didn't prove it???!!!!! How much more money would you like the great state of Florida to waste on a piece of trash like Casey Anthony? I'd much rather see that money spent on a monument to sweet little Caylee to remind all of us that we need to be diligent in watching out for all children, not just our own and the rest of the money should be spent on incarcerating Casey Anthony till the day she dies and goes to hell

I don't feel that Casey's father George had anything do with the death of Caylee. Casey doesn't want to take responsibility for her own actions. Casey was willing to throw her own family and anyone else that she could add to the massive lies she told under the bus to save her own butt. My opinion I feel that the prosecution team has prove beyond a reasonable doubt that Casey Anthony is (Guility) of the crime of causing the death of her daughter . Casey only cried during the trial when the focus was on her and not for her daughter Caylee. Remember 31 days of Casey "Bella Vita" without Caylee.

Question: Why does Casey Anthony deserve the death penalty when Richard Adams who brutely killed his 8 year old Kayla for doiling her pants and then buried her in the Ocala National Forest all because he had a terrible toothache and for this he is serving a life sentence? Also Eric Fletcher, shook his baby to death in Fort St. Lucie and got five years of prison time. And who can forget Susan Smith in South Carolina, she was found guilty of killing her children and she will be eligible for parole in 2024. These crimes were much more brutal than this one.......

I think George is mad and he was sick and tired of her lies and he is tried of covering for her as his daughter. She let that child be missing for 31 days. What the hell. How could you not say anything to anyone and not show any depression. She will at least get aggravated child abuse, she neglected her daughter, did not make sure she was cared for and lied to everyone who wanted to find Caylee or take care of her. Shame on her. Look at her lack of emotion. If the jury could use her reactions in court she would be hung.

I don't know. If I think about all aspects of what has been said and done. Maybe George came home and found out Caylee died in the pool while in Casey's care. He covered it up to protect his daughter and told her to continue living to not focus on her. But, then again why wouldn't he call the police, it would have been an accidental drowning. Who knows. She may get off for lack of everything but her lies held up the search and allowed that baby to decompose and prevent any evidence.

I believe that George Anthony knows a whole lot more than we think. I believe that Crystal Holloway's testimony was credible. She was a woman scorned. I think that if a person is seriously going to commit suicide they don't call home first. They may write a letter and then do it. This was more of a cry for help. The suicide letter didn't prove anything to me accept that George felt guilty about the adultery and other things. I did not like the man at all. He lied about the affair with Crystal Holloway. When he said that it was an accident that snow balled out of control....what did he mean by that? The entire family proved themselves as liars on the witness stand! We still don't know the truth. Only Casey and George knows the truth...

I totally agree with you. I can't stand either one. Cyndy was a domineering mother. When Casey became pregnant she wanted to give the baby up so the baby could have a better life .But mother told her No! If she had committed the murder as they say "Why would you ever put the remains just down the street. George on the other hand was a detective who knew how to cover up crimes.

He tried to make it look like a kidnapping. I think Casey lied for her father. How can you kill anyone if your not home. George and Cyndy were the last to see Cay-ley they were babysitting. Casey had just come home from wherever she was and George started screaming. George is a bad specimen of a man. I do believe he is a predatator of children! How do we know if he was doing anything to the baby. He is the one, who may have been afraid of the baby starting to talk!!!!! I total agree with you a lot of unanswered questions. George even acts guilty. If he was total innocent he would not have lied on the stand.

One question was never answered for me at the trial. As big as Central Florida is. With all the orange groves and rural areas surrounding Orlando, why would Casey dump her baby's body just 1/4 mile from her parents home, when she wasn't even living there at the time?

I raised two daughters. Both "went missing" between the ages of two and four years of age. The first time I was distracted writing a check in a department store, and when I looked done she was gone! I screamed my child was gone, and luckily she was found less than fifteen feet away exploring the hardware department. The second time my daughter failed to return from swimming lessons on a school bus. It took two hours to find her, it was an understandable miscommunication, but in the meantime, I called everyone in a state of panic and neighbors helped out "manning the phones." Point being: Most mothers have their heart stopping moments when a child is missing even for a few seconds. Thirty one days. And even then it wasn't Casey who called the police freaking out.
