Korean office tower evacuated after mysterious shaking

Authorities in Seoul, South Korea, ordered the evacuation of a 39-story office building Tuesday after occupants reported that it shook for about 10 minutes, local media reported.

There was no seismic activity reported at the time of the tremors, which began about 10:10 a.m., according to a report in The Korea Times.

"I fled the building with everyone else while it was shaking up and down. It almost made me feel dizzy," Lim Joon-hee, who works on the 20th floor of the building, told the Yonhap News Agency.

About 3,000 people were in the building at the time. All were evacuated, and the building, whose tenants include offices, retailers and a theater,  will remain closed for up to three days while it undergoes safety inspections, local media reported.

No trains run underneath and no seismic activity? Get out and stay out until they find the cause. The lack of weight (or normal activity) on the floors may cause it to take longer to find the cause, but place sounds like a disaster in the making.

Marty and Pedro must be stupid Americans...instead of addressing the obvious structural concerns of the building, they make jokes based on s_x and B movies. Is there any hope for intelligent life in America in the 21st century? I think not.

It can be the weight of the building and the fact that almost 3000 people were inside. It could be excess weight of the people plus the furniture plus the original weight and capacity of the building. Think of that???

When buildings are designed, the "weight of the people plus the furniture plus the original weight and capacity of the building" are all taken into account. It's part of the basic process of designing any building. Think of that???

The relative weight of the people in comparison to the frame of this building is like comparing the weight of dust on a basketball.

The geniuses that designed and built the 26 story library at the University of
Massachusetts did not account for the weight of the books. Many floors have
no books, just lots of wasted space.

@ Caihlyn: Take it easy, it was poor excuses for a joke, but there is nothing wrong with making light of a serious situation. They weren't hurtful, get that thing out of your behind.
