Myanmar diplomat seeks asylum in U.S.

The second-highest-ranking diplomat at the embassy of Myanmar in Washington has defected and wants to seek asylum in the United States.

In a letter to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton obtained by CNN, Deputy Chief of Mission Kyaw Win said he had "no choice" but to leave his post in protest over human rights abuses and fraudulent elections.

Win's move is a setback for the regime in Myanmar, which held its first elections in 20 years in November.

    This is a brave man and one who embodies character and principle. He could have "sold out" and been part of such atrocities and abuses for power and personal gain, but instead took the high-ground. I hope the US grants him asylum and I hope he becomes a protected voice for those is Myanmar who are too afraid to speak. – Jonathan Witerski

    Why would he even bother to ask, the US gov turns a blind-eye to the out of control flow of illeagal immigrents anyway!!! This gov is selling out our country to any and all illeagal that walks or crawls across our borders... Espeically the Obama admin. And why you ask, because that piece of SH-T SPEAR- CHUCKER is an illeagal himself... This country needs someone that will stand up and fight for our country, someone like "JAN BREWER"!!! This is going to get real dirty if the people of the US has to take charge of this immigration problem, and I'll be right there on the front lines because I for one am sick of Americans taking a seat in the back of the bus! Can't do or say anything without offending these disease carrying, ignorent, rude, and theiving S.O.B.'S. If they're not tagging or stealing everything in sight, they are committing every crime known to mankind... "Kill them all"!!! Starting with the one in the W.H.
