Casey Anthony subpoenaed in nanny's defamation suit

Casey Anthony was served papers in jail Tuesday night for her deposition in a defamation lawsuit filed by Zenaida Fernandez Gonzalez, an assistant to Gonzalez's attorney John Morgan said Wednesday.

When her daughter Caylee was missing, Casey Anthony said the 2-year-old was with a nanny by that name. Eventually confronted by her family, Casey Anthony maintained that Gonzalez had kidnapped Caylee.

Authorities never found the nanny. They found a woman named Zenaida Fernandez Gonzalez, who denied ever meeting the Anthonys and later filed the defamation lawsuit.

I believe the justice system worked well in this case. The problem I see is the prosecution's failure to prove their case.

I'm just wondering now that Casey is innocent, when will the FPD resume their investigation on who killed Caylee? This was no accident. And, if this was an accident who put that child's body in the swamp like garbage.

She was not found innocent, she was found not guilty. She is far from innocent many people ar quite sure she killed tha baby. It just couldn't be proven. If the jury knew everything the public did they would have convicted her. I take comfort in knowing she will land in jail for something somehow sme way.

I hope the party bringing the defamation lawsuit against Casey Anthony wins the case and a judgement that takes everything Anthony might make on a movie/book deal.

That would have scary implications, that you can be held liable for simply making up a name. If you don't even know such a person exists, how can you libel them (libel needs some degree of intent)? Imagine writing a crime story where anyone with the name of your criminal could sue you.

to ncga: casey got the name from a sign in sheet at an apartment building office. zenaida was in florida for a minute looking at apts and signed the log book. i believe a friend of caseys worked at the office.

I am appalled at this verdict. Maybe there wasn't enough evidence for Murder 1 or 2...or even manslaughter...BUT why wasn't Casey Anthony charged with "NEGLIGENCE" ? Why wasn't it even brought up? ANY Mother that would leave her child unattended or not knowing where she was for 31 days should have been charged with "NEGLIGENCE"!!! Other Mothers have been jailed for doing far lessI AND, why wasn't she put on the stand? That's what I would have liked to have heard. If she was so darn innocent, why didn't the court hear from her? What did she have to hide? To walk FREE is an insult to our legal systerm and how it works. IMaybe that should be changed! Too many "guilty" people are walking the streets because of our antiquated and hard to understand court rules and procedures! I'm furious!

Ignorant people often get furious. It's a shame that you do not understand the law. I'm just glad your not making the rules!

The real problem is most people get caught up with emotion because of the media personalities. The media personalities do a good job getting to your emotional side with speculation (more right brain thinkinking) and pay little attention to logic and facts (more left brain thinking). Those that can use both sides of their brain are more likely to eventually put aside emotion and figure out most problems with the information they have or limited to use, left brain thinkers can more easily organize the facts and make a decision solely on the facts. Based on the makeup of the various jurors and their present and past occupations, they were all left brain thinkers or used both sides of their brain fairly equal. Right brain thinkers tend to go outside the big picture, left brain thinkers don't go outside the big picture and more focused or tunnel visioned as some may say. Folks that can use both sides of the brain are very very rare personalities. For this type of case, we should thank God we had the right jury or team makeup. I am surprised none of the expert psychiatists or psychologists figured this out yet, or stated the obvious. Go check the makeup of the jury and go back to social psychology, industrial psychology, and management psychology, team skills, etc... The above is not meant to say left brain thinkers are better than right brain thinkers or vice versa. Our personalities are genetic and environmentally led one way or the other, which is why scientific teams usually have a mixture of personality types. Sometimes you need just one type or the other depending on the problem to be solved. A jury in our country should only be dealing with the facts and not speculation.

By the way, Zenaida Gonzalis appears to be law suit hungry and found a law firm that is going to sue Casey Anthony for using her name as the person who kidnapped Caylee. Don't count your chickens before they hatch Zenny. People that lose children tend to go a bit wacky and confused. The only thing you suffered was questioning by the police. Were you ever questioned by the police before? Juries deal with all the facts, and I would kind of have a problem based on what is factual at this point. Heck, the jurors could sue the prosecutor in this case putting them all through pain and suffering for past few months being away from their families on an incomplete case. Don't mean they would win a dime.

It is defamation of character look up how she got this woman's name. She tried to pin the murder on MANY innocent ppl. Her brother and father should also sue Casey as well as equasearch for the 112k they spent looking for a child that was not missing. Don't forget she is also in trouble with the IRS now too. She will end up in prison one way or another, believe that.
