Hours after Casey Anthony learned on Thursday that she will leave jail next week, lightning apparently struck a tree next to a makeshift memorial in honor of her slain daughter, Caylee.
No one saw lightning strike the pine tree on Suburban Drive in Orange County, Florida, where teddy bears and flowers mark the spot where 2-year-old Caylee's remains were found on December 11, 2008.
But long, diagonal strips of exposed wood scarred the tall pine tree, WESH reported, and bits of bark lay scattered across the road.
"It could be a sign from the angels that they aren't happy with what's happened," a visitor to the site told the Orlando Sentinel newspaper. "The rain, the lightning, the storm - it's the heavens indicating they aren't happy."
There are more lightning strikes in Florida per square mile than in any other state, according to weather.com.
A Pinellas County jury acquitted Anthony, 24, of murder and manslaughter charges Tuesday in the death of her daughter. The same jury convicted her of four charges of obstruction of justice for lying to police during the search for Caylee.
Judge Belvin Perry sentenced Anthony to four years in jail - one year for each of her four convictions - but with credit for nearly three years already served and good behavior, her release date was set for Wednesday, July 13, a court spokeswoman said.
Wow, are you people seriously being this immature? A little girl is dead, and there has been NO justice! You guys are acting like she kicked a damn puppy, not killed her daughter. Stop acting like children and arguing over a post. Pay your respects to Caylee, and get lives!
Amber,
If I understand your post correctly you are saying that justice has not been served and people are acting immaturely and not taking the death of a child seriously and paying respects. I think that is inaccurate. Everyone is taking the death of this child very seriously. The death of a child, of this magnitude is horrendous. Justice, as we know it has been upheld in a court of law. The problem is that people are unwilling to accept it because it doesn't have the happy ending they want. People like Nancy Grace are responsible for the state of the nation right now. She has sensationalized and glamorized this particular case with her opinionated, biased points of view. There are daily accounts of similar heinous acts against children. They don't receive similar coverage for various reasons. However, there are websites specifically dedicated to this. Horrible crimes. For three years she and others have led a relentless campaign against this woman and continue to do so after a verdict. I don't agree with you. I for one think what happened to this child was deplorable. The people who are acting reasonable have lives, just because they aren't screaming to the top of their lungs with hate, vengeance and complete disregard for humanity doesn't mean they disrespect the life of Caylee or don't seek the truth about what really happened. Maybe they have a clear understanding of the fine line between acceptance and belief of something and knowledge of our judicial system.
I agree with most of you! I would not want carma against me! unlikely lightening strike -NO. Appropriate -Yes. Should she be scared?..... Absolutely!!!
This is news how?
Maybe it is a sign from God, that she is innocent, for people to leave her alone. God might also be saying there is more evidense at the spot.
People still believe in angels? LMFAO!
If people didn't believe in Gods and angels, you sir wouldn't exist !
Yes Megatron, that's what you have left.. a FAT ass to laugh about.. We get it.. you dont believe in angels.. but leave your fat ass out of this.
You are truly one of life's biggest bafoons. A lifeless lost soul, a shell with no purpose but to garbage up the time you spend on earth.
Lol, they do and the tooth fairy, Santa, and let's not forget the easter bunny.
Yes they are Angels. Some that give you protection from danger that you dont even know of.
Angels… Adults seriously arguing about angels, and insulting those who dare not to believe in them. If you're going to subscribe to such a silly idea, one would think acting more christian might serve your silly purpose. But I'm a realist, I guess.
yourr name is megatron and you saying its funny people believe in angels. so you believe in robots? ha ignorant
Yes picketer, because he uses his screen name of a popular character, he must believe in robots!!! Is there a malfunction in your reasoning or are you just that ignorant, or maybe you were trying to be witty but just failed very horribly? Believing in a robot makes as much sense as believing in angels though (because robots actually do exist!!!)
I bet the guy from tHe Ramsey Case did it!!!
Just as in the day of the flood, nobody looked for rain! The 13th of next week is the time to look for a sign, you all can believe IN! Do not play with God, people!
Alternately,people... play with God. Or play with the tooth fairy, or Santa Claus or the Boogeyman. The consequences are all the same. Crazy people might judge you, even though their fairy tells them not to judge.
Embrace crazy... its as fun as Disney World.
I'm omniscient and not even I understand what you just said.
Let me guess you were one of those morons who thought the world was going to end on May 21st aren't you? Brainwashed by the media. Guess God will have to reschedule His plans since she isn't getting out until the 17th now, since we all know He has nothing better to do than send lightning bolts at trees.
The true God is all-knowing, meaning He already knew Casey would be aquiitted. He does not need to send lightning bolts like some pagan god. God is the only one who knows what really happened. He will judge Casey accordingly. We should give this over to Him, and move on. Lets pray she learned her lesson and will not repeat offend. Jesus told us to love one another and forgive. When all else fails, follow directions.
Wouldn't it be considered "playing with god" by making prophesies?
PS. the Noah thing was an exaggeration about a local flood in the Red Sea and was originally about a man named Gilgamesh.
PSS. She's getting out the 17th not the 13th, you need to change your god's plans.
Smooth move dork
This is such a biased thing to report it's disgusting. Hey, CNN, when the conservatards say you're a crappy news organization...they're onto something!
It's biased to say that lightning struck a tree? Ooookay.
When using the word, "retarded" one should first know the definition & not use it so freely.
I may have missed the shuttle, but I apparently reduced CNN's credibility to ashes! Bwahaha!
Remember when you used to never miss? You could hit a bird from a galaxy away, remember that? Those were the days...
whackydoodles .
Too bad it didn't strike at least one of the jurors 🙁
wow, wishing someone to die. Stay classy now....
Or you
Really CNN??!? Lightning struck somewhere? Wow.
How dare you! I recently spoke to the tooth fairy and she promised me that angels are real. Don't question the creator and don't you dare dismiss the power of the keebler elves or snap crackle and pop.
Well, technically the tooth fairy is an angel. I needed someone to remove kids' teeth from under their pillows, I didn't feel like doing it, so I delegated one of my recently commissioned angels to head up the task. But, full disclosure: I actually fired him about a century ago for um... well let's just say he wasn't right for the job.
