Lightning strikes tree near Caylee Anthony memorial site

Hours after Casey Anthony learned on Thursday that she will leave jail next week, lightning apparently struck a tree next to a makeshift memorial in honor of her slain daughter,  Caylee.

No one saw lightning strike the pine tree on Suburban Drive in Orange County, Florida, where teddy bears and flowers mark the spot where 2-year-old Caylee's remains were found on December 11, 2008.

But long, diagonal strips of exposed wood scarred the tall pine tree, WESH reported, and bits of bark lay scattered across the road.

"It could be a sign from the angels that they aren't happy with what's happened," a visitor to the site told the Orlando Sentinel newspaper. "The rain, the lightning, the storm - it's the heavens indicating they aren't happy."

There are more lightning strikes in Florida per square mile than in any other state, according to weather.com.

A Pinellas County jury acquitted Anthony, 24, of murder and manslaughter charges Tuesday in the death of her daughter. The same jury convicted her of four charges of obstruction of justice for lying to police during the search for Caylee.

Judge Belvin Perry sentenced Anthony to four years in jail - one year for each of her four convictions - but with credit for nearly three years already served and good behavior, her release date was set for Wednesday, July 13, a court spokeswoman said.

What a joke. I can't believe this is news! Lightening strikes thousands of times a day. tsumai's kill hundreds of thousands of people in a matter of minutes, half a town burns to the ground from a wildfire, tornados kill hundreds of innocent people. Do you fools actually think some god has something to do with it??? Time to evolve people, embrace science and leave the fantasy world where it belongs, on Nancy Disgrace.

It's a coincidence. Now, if lightning were to strike Casey Anthony, I'd say you have something. That would be justice.

You make sense. I personally could see it as a sign, or ....god saying that it's going to be ok. But come on, to everyone else... Do we have to have to have to always turn it into crap? Think what you will. Do what you want! Take things in a good way. I do not fear this..... Because it could be a coincidence.

The boogie man is the bill collecter. Be very afraid of the debt coming due in this country. The American people will have to share global resources with Mexican truck drivers now.

I wonder if the child's DNA from the criminal case could be released for testing and grandparent's DNA be used for comparison. And if Michael Duggan is the bio dad then that could be yet one more lawsuit against Casey Anthony for "wrongful death" of the grand-baby?

Everything I do is newsworthy, my child. Unfortunately, the media has been slacking lately. Not five minutes ago I threw a gust of wind at a trove of trees in the Sierra Nevadas. I'm feeling a bit underappreciated.

Or it could be just a lightning strike, an act of nature. Right?????? Don't everyone go getting goofy just because Casey Anthony was acquitted. I do not believe in this type of thing.

Also, why would it assumed this is God striking out against the verdict and not against the Caylee worshipers who are disrespecting the justice system and the decision of their peers? I am sure Nancy Grace has the answer.

Let's be clear. A miracle is a rare thing by definition. This would mean instead of not letting thousands of children around the world die of starvation, God was too interested in the Casey Anthony trial and angered by it's surprise verdict. A verdict apparently he didn't see coming either. Christians are funny.
