Lightning strikes tree near Caylee Anthony memorial site

Hours after Casey Anthony learned on Thursday that she will leave jail next week, lightning apparently struck a tree next to a makeshift memorial in honor of her slain daughter,  Caylee.

No one saw lightning strike the pine tree on Suburban Drive in Orange County, Florida, where teddy bears and flowers mark the spot where 2-year-old Caylee's remains were found on December 11, 2008.

But long, diagonal strips of exposed wood scarred the tall pine tree, WESH reported, and bits of bark lay scattered across the road.

"It could be a sign from the angels that they aren't happy with what's happened," a visitor to the site told the Orlando Sentinel newspaper. "The rain, the lightning, the storm - it's the heavens indicating they aren't happy."

There are more lightning strikes in Florida per square mile than in any other state, according to weather.com.

A Pinellas County jury acquitted Anthony, 24, of murder and manslaughter charges Tuesday in the death of her daughter. The same jury convicted her of four charges of obstruction of justice for lying to police during the search for Caylee.

Judge Belvin Perry sentenced Anthony to four years in jail - one year for each of her four convictions - but with credit for nearly three years already served and good behavior, her release date was set for Wednesday, July 13, a court spokeswoman said.

That's an insult to God. So He throws thunderbolts NEAR a memorial to a dead child, and it means what? He hated the child and is glad she's dead? Stop leaving teddy bears and go home? You must kill the child's mother before midnight?
He supposedly wrote a whole Bible, why can't He just say "Aw, I disagree with the verdict and I want all the jurors to die?" Laryngitis?

So God wrote the Bible now?? Wow, I've been around Christianity for 37 years and I have never heard one person assert that before.

You know, when you spend so much time criticizing something you clearly know NOTHING about, you just come off as a bigger fool than whomever you're trying desparately to criticize.

i have always heard it called "the word of god". when christianists say the bible is the word of men, they will be correct. man invented god, not the other way around.

For a minute I thought I was reading the Onion.

Orlando and Central Florida during summer are known as the "Lightning Capital of the World" with the highest rate of lighting strikes.

Wow, a similar incident happened here a long time ago. A priest was accused of molesting a little boy, at another parish, and the church dismissed it, and relocated that priest here....lightening struck the cross at the top of the church, that night. It took years for the truth to come out about that priest ... but he was proven guilty Re: that boy, and others after! The truth always comes out!

Wow! The devil had something to do with this, but God will finish it! She might get lots of money, but will end up never paying her fines, and other lawsuits. Also will blow her money, be miserable, empty, and possibly back in jail! Everybody's going to forget about her eventually....and she'll end up doing something else for attention, since she got a taste. She's evil and will be in torment for the rest of her life, till she confesses to God!

I'm sorry I didn't know God had anything to do with any of this. She was found not guilty because of a lack of evidence against her. She goes free. Yes she admitted to lying to cover up some of the truths. We are not the judge. jury or executioners. I believe if she did do it, she will slip up and convict herself with her big mouth sooner or later. Or she will commit another awful act. But this case is closed if she behaves herself. Sometimes we just get away with it. Whether it be that chocolate bar we stole as a kid, to the Gas we took from our Parents. To yes, even killing someone. The prosecutor did have all their ducks in a row and she walked. End of story for now!

Yeah, god definitely did that! Makes you wonder why he would choose to show displeasure with a lightning strike on a tree near a makeshift memorial for the dead girl when no one was looking instead of say, I don't know, not letting her get killed? There is no god, get over yourself and get on with life.

Casey is sick, psychopath or sociopath, I don't know and don't care which. She is evil, visible in her triangular features and the horns that rose from her eyebrows across her forehead. Visible in her stone cold lack of emotion for her own baby. There could easily be another victim, adult or child, and when it happens, in honoring the victim I hope they scroll the names of those jurors who are directly responsible.

Let me get this straight, CA who may of killed her kid gets into heaven if she confesses and asks for forgiveness, yet an non-believe gets sent straight to hell (even if they lived a murder free life) because they have an open mind that maybe, just maybe a book written 2000k years ago could be inaccurate. That pretty much sums it up? Murder + Belief > Non-belief

NO! All those things will happen because she is young and stupid and will use her free will to make poor decisions, resulting in her bad consequences! Or......she will learn from this, reform herself, and do something positive with the opportunity because she makes GOOD decsions based on, again, using her free will.

None of this has to do with magic or fairy tales. Get a grip! If there was a god, he would have stopped her from getting killed, dontcha think??????

There are a couple hundred cases of mothers murdering their children in this country every single year. They're all tragedies, and there is nothing especially newsworthy about this one. CNN needs to stop catering to morons and go back to reporting on things that are relevant to a national audience, that actually impact their lives, because the sick little theater they're making out of this local story crossed the line into a national embarrassment a long time ago.

i agree with you fully on this. Why make this sych a national propaganda when things like this happen all over this country everyday. Kidnappings also. Why did they give Elizabeth smart headline news when there are kidnapped kids even in the area i live in. If your rich and white then you get the headlines it seems.

I disagree with you. You people have no heart, no compassion for a young 2 year old. That's pretty obvious!

It's not about compassion. There have been, literally, 500+ other babies murdered by their own mothers since this one. Some of the, inevitably, were near you, wherever you are. How many of their names do you know? How many were mentioned on CNN? Caylee Anthony's death is terrible, but not more terrible than any of the others. How many others received this hysterical, frothing, obsessive attention at the expense of real issues that actually affect the lives of viewers?

This is a single murder case, one of thousands going on at any time, in one corner of a big country that nobody outside of the area would have known or cared about until the media rubbed it in their face. It's simply not relevant for 99% of Americans, except for those who have absolutely nothing important to think about all day and need to live vicariously through this story.

If CNN wants to entertain the ghouls in this country who think this is what matters and want it to engulf their lives as if it's American Idol, they need to start an all-infanticide spinoff channel for it. This is supposed to be CNN. It's supposed to be news. Not idiots babbling about how they think angels cause lightning when they're angry.
