Lightning strikes tree near Caylee Anthony memorial site

Hours after Casey Anthony learned on Thursday that she will leave jail next week, lightning apparently struck a tree next to a makeshift memorial in honor of her slain daughter,  Caylee.

No one saw lightning strike the pine tree on Suburban Drive in Orange County, Florida, where teddy bears and flowers mark the spot where 2-year-old Caylee's remains were found on December 11, 2008.

But long, diagonal strips of exposed wood scarred the tall pine tree, WESH reported, and bits of bark lay scattered across the road.

"It could be a sign from the angels that they aren't happy with what's happened," a visitor to the site told the Orlando Sentinel newspaper. "The rain, the lightning, the storm - it's the heavens indicating they aren't happy."

There are more lightning strikes in Florida per square mile than in any other state, according to weather.com.

A Pinellas County jury acquitted Anthony, 24, of murder and manslaughter charges Tuesday in the death of her daughter. The same jury convicted her of four charges of obstruction of justice for lying to police during the search for Caylee.

Judge Belvin Perry sentenced Anthony to four years in jail - one year for each of her four convictions - but with credit for nearly three years already served and good behavior, her release date was set for Wednesday, July 13, a court spokeswoman said.

It's a shame that her evil person of a mother ( and I use that term loosly) wasn't standing nearby.

@justiceforall: sorry but a just God would not allow evil to endure, that is just using apologetics to make an excuse for why a mythical being would allow a tragic injustice to occur. The free will line has been way overplayed by religious apologists of all denominations, time to come up with a new shtick.

When I seen the picture of the lighting hitting the tree, it looked to me like three strikes where the bark was taken off, How many times was casey found not guilty? Three, is caylee telling us something? What goes around comes around, if I were Casey I would be worried.

If the sign was from all mighty God himself, then why would he let Caylee be murdered by her mother in the first place?
You religious people really like to grasp at straws.

Because it is not His job to keep all bad things from happening. You are here on this Earth to learn His word and live your life.. Whether or not it's a good one is mostly up to you. Just know that judgement day will come.

God didn't let Caylee get murdered by her mother. God gave us free will and when adam and eve sinned, sin entered into the world. Therefore, we are born into sin. God gave Ms. Anthony free will and she chose to be evil. He also gave authority to men to do a good job when placed in a position to be a Juror. Well, we felled at that too, so now it is up to God for judgement. You guys should relieze how much God loves us. He loves us so much that because we sinned he still wanted to save us even though be didn't deserve it, so he sent is very own son to save us.

All through this trial there have been many people's opinion about what God would/should have done, what He meant by this/that, and judgement called down on many people. I'd like to say this. This country, The United States of America, was founded by men who were raised from birth to believe that God was the supreme authority. In building the USA, they used as a construct, what they believed to be the sacred Word of God, The Holy Bible. In that Book, it says, "Judge Not lest ye be Judged," SO, these men were very careful to write into each section of our government, a series of checks and balances. In the Judicial branch, it calls each man (or woman) innocent until proven guilty. To be proved guilty of one of the "Big Ten Sins," as in, "Thou shalt not kill," a jury of 12 of their peers must find NO reason of doubt in each count of these sins. Casey was found Not Guilty. In Our USA she also may not be tried again for the same offence, or, sin. It is not up to us to pass any kind of judgment or justice. Education in the workings of our government, our history and the Holy Bible would be more beneficial than spewing crude nonsense around about the mindset of our nation to the whole world. And, before anyone reminds me that this idea does not separate religion and government, it was never meant to be.

'Enjoy Hell, Loser'? Explain to me how that statement is in ANY way Christian? We all knew that by reading this story that 'God or No God' would be part of this discussion. Personally, I want the mother to get struck and the minute she signs a lucrative book deal or reality show contract – then if there's a God who blows evil people away with lightning bolts – yay!

God knew what kind of the Anthony home environment was like with its dark secrets, lies, and severe family dysfunctionalities that it would not have been healthy for Caylee to grow up in. He had a reason for little Caylee to be living in a special place in heaven , surrounded by little angels as her friends. Who knows if little Caylee's real dad did pass away, he will be there with her also.

I was very upset with the verdict ..I don't think the jurors got it right and committed an injustice to Caylee. Jean Cazares of Prime News always commented how worried she was that the jurors except juror 4 didn't take notes throughout the trial. The gentleman who works for People Magazine even stated that he watched Juror #3 Jennifer Ford just sat there throughout the whole trial without taking any notes. Someone just sat there with arms crossed and tapping their feet as being bored. I lived in Pinellas County for years and when I heard they were going to pick jurors from this county, I shooked my head in apprehension. I just had bad vibes about the whole thing...I kept saying why not other counties...why Pinellas??? I told my family that at the end of this murder trial, the jurors will screw it up. Poor Caylee didn't get the justice she rightfully deserved!

Down the road, God will make Casey pay for all the sins and pains she inflicted on the innocent victims. She cannot run and hide anymore. God will find her even if she was hiding under piles of coals in a deserted coal mine somewhere in Timbuktu.

Really?.."God knew what kind the Anthony home environment was like"...that is why he let her be murdered? Why would "god" let her be born into that environmment to begin with? God and his silly mysterious ways, right?

I agree with one thing you said. Casey, (nor anyone else) can hide from God. God, now, will deal with her as He knows her, Guilty, or, Innocent. I stand on what I said before. We were not picked as jurors, therefor, it is not our purpose to judge. I want to call to attention one other thing you said. You judged a whole county, the prosecution, everyone, when you said they will get it wrong. Now, since you call on God to judge her guilty, and you say He knows the Anthony household with all of its "dysfunctionalities", (all of our families have those, don't we, to some extent?) can you not remember that the Anthony family was given the right, by the founding fathers of our nation, to a jury of her peers? Her peers could not have been better represented anywhere else than by her home. Trust God to know exactly who did what. If you can really trust Him, your anger may be assuaged,or be put to better use.

Crazy how many of you reject Jesus. Once twice or even 3 three times I would call it the normal, its when the supernatural shows up numerous times and you still don't believe? Instead the demons inside you LASH out and reject our savior. In Jesus name I pray you all find the happiness, peace, grace and joyfulness on earth as it is in heaven.

Wow...lightning hitting a tree (the highest tree in the area by far). Has to be a sign from God, because as everyone knows lighting is most likely to strke objects closest to the ground.
In all seriousness, if it truly was a sign from the Almighty, it would have hit Nancy Grace.

Um, honestly. If you're going to insult God, get your facts right. Things like this happen all the time but it's his job to heal the people who are going through these situations. Sometimes people can be very wicked and I'm sure God has called out many times to whoever murdered Caylee.

  11. I doubt it.

You know folks. If this really were a sign from god, that he's angry. Don't you think it would have hit the Anthony home instead? I highly doubt this is from god or whoever.
