U.S. recognizes South Sudan

The United States recognizes South Sudan as a sovereign and independent state, U.S. President Barack Obama said Saturday.

"After so much struggle by the people of South Sudan, the United States of America welcomes the birth of a new nation," Obama said in a statement. "Today is a reminder that after the darkness of war, the light of a new dawn is possible. A proud flag flies over Juba and the map of the world has been redrawn."

US troops weren't after bin Laden in Afghanistan. They were after the Taliban government that would NOT allow the use of their sacred holy Muslim Allah fearing land to be used by the 'infidels' as is forbidden in the Koran. There's something in the Koran about what to do to any foreigners if they were to ever invade, but it's too bloody for CNN to post. The instructions on how to deal with a man claiming to be Muslim who has either sided with or is himself one of the invaders are even more gruesome.

    Sure @ Philip
invaders on our sacred land will always be treated differently. And I always thought that you were savvy & not easily swayed by propaganda.
After all this Islamophobia & bruhaha about 'Sharia Law' ,which those who make the most noise know nothing about , I did some research . I read the entire Koran and its wonderful translation & interpretation " Opening the Quran" by Professor Walker Wagner a most respected non- muslim academic. Also by another widely read non-muslim theologian Leslie Hazelton " On Reading The Quran".
And I was surprised to learn how baseless all this propaganda has been. The treatment of invaders or the enemy during battles or after a conquest, in the Koran is exactly what today's rules of engagement are followed by all civilized countries.
And on many other aspects which have been distorted by those who profit from spreading fear & hate. Like Jihad, taking lives etc. In fact the Koran follows & affirms what had been taught in older scriptures like The Torah & Bible, the Prophets & the Law.

Appears that those handful of terrorists we are fighting in Iraq, Afghanistan & Pakistan do not themselves know zilch about their own religion or Koran. No wonder more muslims sre dying at their hands than anyone else.

You are wrong. Jesus commands his followers to love their God and to love their neighbors, even to pray for their enemies, as recorded in the bible. While Allah commands to "slay them (infidels; non-believers) wherever you find them, and to deal "harshly" with "Renegade muslims" who have turned their backs on Allah and joined with thee invaders. The last thing a captured American soldier in Afghanistan would want to claim is that he's Muslim, as if it were Allah who sent him to invade. Your claim that the Koran "affirms" what is taught in God's word is laughable. True Muslims would never side with infidels, and as we have seen this "Arab Spring" is what happens when Muslim peoples find out that their own Muslim government has been nothing but a puppet for the infidels this whole time.

      verse 5: 32

" killing a person is like killing all humanity and saving a person is the same as saving humanity"

"Slay them WHEREVER you find them and drive them out..." The Koran, Sura 2:191. "On unbeleievers is the curse of Allah"–2:161 "Fighting is obligatory for you, much as you dislike it."–2:216 "But if [your brothers] turn Renegade, sieze them and slay them WHEREVER you find them"–4:89. I cannot even imagine Jesus saying those words to his followers. But you can? pls. explain.

    @ saywhat @ Philip
Philip you have committed the same ( perhaps unintentional) error which the propgandists make.
You have just posted a snippet from the complete verse of Quran – 2;190-193 .
" Fight in the cause of God those who fight you, but do not transgress: for God loves not thge transgressors. And slay them wherever you catch them, and turn them out from where they have turned you out... for tumult & oppression are worse than slaughter. But if they cease, God is oft forgiving, most merciful; if they cease let there be no hostility except to those who practice oppression"
proves my point. Precisely the rules of engagement we follow and precisely what we are doing in Iraq, Afghanistan & Pakistan . We are following what the Quran lays out .for those who fight us.
I would quote other vesrses in whole but that would become to lengthy.
Quoting Quran out of context is an old trick. Thats why I had to read the whole book as interpreted & translated by non-muslim scholars.

@Philip. So even if Bush is related to the Queen, what's your point? I myself am related to not only Abraham Lincoln but Oliver Cromwell as well. Humphrey Bogart was a close cousin to Prince Charles as well, it all pretty much means diddly squat.
