Atlantis docks on space station

Atlantis docked with the International Space Station Sunday morning as part of a historic mission marking the final flight of the U.S. shuttle program. Atlantis' four-member crew will deliver supplies and spare parts to the space station, and pick up a broken pump and transport it back to Earth for inspection, NASA said on its website.

The shuttle docked at 11:07 a.m. ET.

The four-member crew blasted off Friday at 11:29 a.m. on what was originally planned to be a 12-day mission, the last in the nation's 30-year shuttle program. NASA will likely try to extend the mission by one day, said Mike Gerstenmaier, the associate administrator.

The Shuttle program is 30 yrs. old, time for an update & upgrade! It's important, cause if China is a superpower we need a new frontier, preferably to infinity & beyond, in a galaxy far, far away!!:)

  7. Rise of the dragon

China is all about the rise of the dragon. They took our labor for pennies on the dollar, sell us electronic goodies, and don't honor any trade agreement with us. We export Camaros and they swap out the American parts for Chinese. Our leaders are apparently in on the scheme.

Didnt Obama say that NASAs mission now was to help the Muslims instead of space exploration?

The shuttle program should've ended about 17 years ago, while it was an exciting program for it's time it has kept us grounded in lower Earth orbit for far too long. We should already be headed to Mars with manned missions instead we're just now awakening from a long slumber.

@ben: Going to Mars with manned missions is a little unrealistic. A moon base makes more sense and if trouble arises then getting off the surface isn't as difficult. Going to Mars needs to be a one way trip and a sustained effort to build a colony. The Moon has resources we can use to get there. We can even make oxygen with some of the materials there.

How about they completely shut down NASA except what is essential to national security? Spread that money around to some things that could use it. Education, job creation and more. I'm sure those in space exploration can understand we must take care of this frontier before we impose ourselves onto a new one.
