Obama administration asks court to reconsider 'don't ask, don't tell' order

The Obama administration Thursday evening asked a federal appeals court to reconsider its order last week blocking the U.S. military from enforcing its "don't ask, don't tell" policy on gays and lesbians serving in the military.

U.S. officials have been moving ahead with dismantling the policy but had objected to having the courts force the government to officially repeal it at this time.

At issue in the complex legal fight is whether "don't ask, don't tell" can remain in effect - even in name only - while the legal fight over its constitutionality is being carried out in the federal courts. Judges have been at odds over the enforcement issue for months.

The case has put the Obama administration in an unusual position of supporting a repeal, but at the same time filing court motions to prevent it from happening faster than planned. Military officials suggest the policy compliance changes eliminating "don't ask, don't tell" could be finished in a few weeks.

I wish that Obama would stop trying to play to both sides of the fence on issues regarding gay men and lesbians.
It gives him an ultra-slick appearance.

Obama has no shame. His actions are anti-LGBT, yet he holds LGBT fundraisers to be re-elected? He needs to 'evolve' or leave office.

He's a politician. What did you pinko commies on the left expect? Come join the independents we can make fun of both parties while possibly getting some stuff done sans mind games... I don't like legislating from the bench either and would like to see congress pass something on it.

Jokes only exist in the minds of people who don't sit at their computer all day. My point of the far left and far right ruining this planet are dead on though. Voters with agendas will sleep with the enemy in order to get one thing passed that they like, regardless of the other stuff that goes wrong. I think it's funny. I've been called "comrade" by some people because I believe the people who work and pay the most taxes should have the bigger voice, instead of a select few. Relax.

...when something is funny. You aren't. Relax, it's ok not to be funny. Just not as much fun.

I do not understand why the president would want to appease the republicans every chance he gets. But maybe looking on the bright side we should just be thankful that Hitler or Stalin are no longer alive.

The gay community is being lured out into the open where they can be got-at later on. There are laws that have already been written that will see to it that anyone who violates federal laws, even if they were respecting and holding to State laws, will legally be imprisoned in one of our illustrious Homeland Security Prisons. As soon as "victory" has been declared on this "war on terror", the 'Victory Act'[Patriot Act 2]...already written, already ratified...just waiting for enactment, will be ENFORCED! research "noachide laws". That will take you to what's-up with all of this. You are being warned, NOT being impelled to become involved in civil acts of disobedience! NOTHING can stop the eventuality. You WILL know the truth. And either be set-free, or destroyed. 🙂
