Source: FBI launches investigation into Murdoch's News Corp.

The FBI has launched an investigation into Rupert Murdoch's News Corp. amid allegations that employees or associates may have hacked into phone conversations and voicemail of September 11 survivors, victims and their families, a federal law enforcement source told CNN.

"We are aware of the allegations and are looking into them," said the source, who requested anonymity due to the sensitivity of the investigation.

"We'll be looking at anyone acting for or on behalf of News Corp., from the top down to janitors," to gather information and determine whether any laws may have been broken.

Because the investigation just began, it's too early to say when the first interviews will be conducted, the source said. New York Rep. Peter T. King, a Republican, earlier this week asked FBI Director Robert Mueller to investigate the possibility that journalists working for Murdoch may have tapped into the phones of 9/11 victims and relatives.

News Corp. said Thursday it had no comment on the FBI investigation or possible congressional hearings.

  1. What goes around.....

Watch 'Citizen Kane' and you will have a greater understanding of how power can corrupt you, as well as make you feel as if you have the power to control people's minds. This incident may not take down Murdoch, or convince those that drink his kool aid that he is not doing what they want him to. But it will shed light on how a sleazy organization with $ can corrupt people, influence public opinion and make legislation to their benefit.

You can't kill religion and you can't kill fox news; they are on in the same. A certain portion of the population will always opt to ignore reality for what they themselves want to believe in. As long as there is a way for them to justify their fantasies, they will cling to it and defend it until the end. It sucks that the intellectuals are the minority in this insane world.

So are you, the atheist intellectual, going to save the personal freedoms of American citizens? I doubt it.

@jacksonvillecollector – Personal freedoms? Why don't you ask the family of murdered girl about personal freedoms. Why don't you ask any of the people who had their voicemails stolen about personal freedoms? Why don't you ask 9/11 families about personal freedoms?

If you defend a Fascist, then you ARE a Fascist.

Actually News Corp was subcontracted by the brightest corporate minds to construct the 9/11 disaster, along with several construction/security companies, and oil companies! It's been an extremely profitable and successful year ever for the corporate world!

Reading the different allegations against News Corp, one has to wonder if these people have any moral standards at all. The moral decay of the right, lead by such groups as this, has been precipitious. There are facts and truth and reality and the news organizations should on some basic level respect that and not decend into a nihilistic, amoral, anything-is-permitted level of standards. It is true because we say it is true. It is dangerous to the health of our democracy and future.

Sometimes the guilty are those that proclaim their innocence the loudest. Fox and Murdoch always blaim everyone else for the problems in this country. Looks like big brother Fox here has been eavesdropping on others for information. They earn money the old fashion way....they steal it.

Sick em FBI.. Get this clown for everything he's worth. I'd like to see the news begin to report news again, instead of opinion and propaganda.

No doubt, imagine how much better shape we'd be in today if the media had being doing it's job since 9/11. They've all failed us, Fox News is not alone in this. I hope they all go down.

The fact that Murdock hired a common criminal on several occassions to hack-in to the cellphones belonging to citizens and politicians has been reported in The Guradian for over 2 years now, one of the hacked phones belonged to a still missing child who was found dead. wtg FBI. Leading the way. At least now I don't feel so bad about how you (the fbi) dragged your feet for Rachel Corrie, honorary Captain of the USS Liberty. Reign-in the FBI and make every agent testify under oathe to the one true and living God. (same God Obama and Congress swear-to before taking office w/ hand on if ya wanna get anti-God, get anti-God with the man you personally voted for, not me...not here) Reign 'em all in. I want to see them looking at US square in the eye...under oathe. You too you judges, you commisioners, you civil servants with authority. Let US hook YOU up to a lie detector and subject YOU to enhanced interrogation techniques. I'm tired that it's only citizens in the crosshairs. Let's interrogate them?
