Leopard killed after mauling six in India

Officers shot and killed a leopard after it strayed into a village and attacked six people in West Bengal, India, according to media reports.

The leopard attacked a woman and two men, The Australian reported.

People in the densely populated slum village of Prakash Nagar climbed onto rooftops as forestry officers pursued the big cat and vice versa, Sky News reported. Several attempts to tranquilize it failed.

Things seemed to calm down after the leopard sought refuge in bushes, but it leaped out at three officers, Sky News reported. An officer finally wounded the animal, and it later died at a veterinary clinic.

One forestry officer was reported critically injured.

  1. Great post

Your post is stupid! If we all are so called "animals" then the third world country that you speak of has a right to kill another "animal". You're very ignorant.

So called "animals." You must have slept through Biology class when they talked about classification and where humans were put.

I got an A+ in HS biology. I find it interesting. However, I am not an animal and I am not a monkeys relative. You can consider yourself a monkey's uncle if you want , but leave me out of it. God made me in his image and that's what I beleive. What I was taught and what I learned and studied in school is a different story. I am smart and I can learn. That doesn't mean I believe what you say or what I was taught is the truth.

No, you are the ignorant one. The human SPECIES(hint) is an animal. We're made of flesh and bone, we prey on other animals for food- just as they pray on us, we eat, poop, bleed and breath air. Exactly like all the other animals. Just because our brains are more highly evolved (most of us, ahem) does not change the fact that we are made out of exactly the same stuff as all the other creatures on Earth. Put down your bible and read up on some biology... you know- that area of life were proof and logic exist in abundance.

Pick up your bible and pray. I think God wants to breathe some life into you, you pile of dirt (Gen 2).

Go ahead and prey on your Twinkies.

Probably because he didn't want to be killed by the leopard. Fear is an expected reaction when facing a predator that is more powerful than oneself.

Some of you people in the comments are saying that it was wrong to kill the animal. You can't just let a leopard attack you. It wasn't like these people were poaching it, it was in self defense; it was them or the animal. The animal was in a city. And they actually tried using traquilizers. We shouldn't even be talking about race or money or anything else either, that is off topic.

they could have tranquillized him - even if their "attempts to repeatedly tranquilize him failed", they should have kept trying until they succeeded. no need to kill him. i'm not buying that their efforts to tranquilize him were all for not. nope.

people see death as a solution. so sad. while i (obviously) don't want to see a person die either...it was unnecessary - in this situation with several men with tranquilizer guns - to kill him. sorry.

they should have tried harder...and they didn't. look at the pics. there were men all around him.

      sorry for the leopard.

The leopard saw the humans as a threat...and rightly so. Humans are the biggest threat to the Earth's ecology. The leopard no doubt saw it as its only option. It was instinct to protect what it thought was it's home. Humans tend to forget that they are not the master's of the world around them. There are animals more powerful than us out there and they will not hesitate to kill if they are backed into a corner. Humans are the species capable of understanding that we are backing them into a corner by taking over their habitats for our own. We should expect their will be skirmishes like these as long as we continue to do so. After all, I seriously doubt we would let another country try to move in and take over the United States.

Step 3. Comment (troll or rant about how india sucks)
Step 4. Feel like you are making a difference because you commented ( yea!!! you showed him!!!)
Step 5. Reply with an Intellectual/Properly spelled and punctuated comment
Step 6. Feel super duper smart about it
      Step 7. Noone cares
      Step 8. Still noone cares
Step 9. Why are you still reading this?

Indian economy is largely driven by domestic consumption and outsourcing is only creating employment for a small drop of the population. While I am sure people are thankful of the new jobs and are spending, the money is going into the american multinational pockets. Its a two way street and this is globalization..Before people make generalizations, you shoudl travel the country and look beyond the obvious filth and meet the people. They are like u with a brown skin cover because of excess melanin..
